Unrealistic Expectations lead to Relapse...

I think a large part of the frustration that most of us experience in life is due to unrealistic expectations. We often expect too much of life in general, and of other people in particular.

For instance, we may encounter someone who is rude, and we get upset, thinking, How can he treat me that way? Doesn't he know any better? What's wrong with him? I would never treat someone like that!...

Miss my Son

I miss my son. I haven't seen him for over a month now. His mother and I are divorced. One of the many by-products of my drinking in two senses of the word. Because I was drinking I picked a lot of "wrong" partners. People I would have never been with if I were a sober person. And then after I was with them, the drinking caused irreparable damage to those relationships. I actually got sober during the last marriage and when I was seeing clearly it made me sick...literally. Self Actualizer

I believe there is a lot of wisdom in the path to Self Actualization which can be applied to sobriety and maintaining it.

One way in which Maslow approach the problem of what is self-actualization, is to talk about the special, driving needs (B-needs, of course) of the self-actualizers. They need the following in their lives in order to be happy:

Truth, rather than dishonesty.
Goodness, rather than evil.
Beauty, not ugliness or vulgarity.
Unity,...
