I just wanted to take the time to thank God for helping me through day one of my recovery. Yesterday was easy, but I know that this will get much harder. You see, I am a musician, and I play in bars 4-5 nights out of the week. Many of the bars give free drinks to the musicians as a perk or as a supplement to the low wages they sometimes pay. I am hoping that someone might read this and have some suggestions for me.

When I tried to quit about ten years ago, my psychologist at the time, as well as most of people in my A.A. group, said that I might have to change professions. That is not an option. I am a musician to the core. I am not the type of musician that plays for free in jam bands, I am a professional. I have been performing for 12+ years and this is how I make my living.

Tonight, I am going to try journaling on my breaks, and drinking coffee or tea, that I will bring in a thermos, to to avoid going to the bar for anything. Can you think of anything else?

Thank you to anyone who offers their comments and knowledge. I sincerely appreciate all the support.

Best,

Matt
