My thoughts on Today's Gift as I work out a way of abstaining from overeating one day at a time. May God's will be done and not mine.

Closing my blog

Posted 02-05-2008 at 03:57 PM by Gambaru (Ponders on Today's Gift)

How bizarre I wrote a blog yesterday that included about feeling sad I didn't have much interaction on my blog and though I didn't want to go back to OA, I missed getting feedback and felt quite lonely.

I must thank Rowan and the lovely SRers who did comment at times. I just need a bit more feedback and am grateful I can recognise these needs today. I'll still be on the food thread so hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Today's Gift - 02/03/2008 Freedom from chemicals - what don't you miss?

Posted 02-03-2008 at 03:40 PM by Gambaru (Ponders on Today's Gift)

Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Reflection for the Day

Now that I am in The Program, I am no longer enslaved by alcohol and other drugs. Free, free at last from the morning-after tremors, the dry heaves, the three-day beard, the misplaced eyelashes. Free, free at last from working out the alibis and hoping they won't unravel; free from blackouts, free from watching the clock so that I can somehow get that desperately needed "first one." Do I treasure my...

Today's Gift - 02/02/2008 Looking past, present ahead

The Program works if you want it to work.

Rarely do climbers stare up to see how far away the top still is. Instead, when they rest, they look down toward the starting point of their journey. The view they see assures them that they have already come a long, long way.

Like the climbers, we need to keep our eyes on where we are and where we've been, not on where we're going. When we become discouraged with the progress of our recovery, we only need...

Today's Gift - 01/31/2008 The importance of proper sleep

Posted 01-31-2008 at 02:24 PM by Gambaru (Ponders on Today's Gift)

Today's thought from Hazelden is:

How will you dream if you don't sleep?
How will you hear yourself?
--Michael Dorris

Sleep is a wonderful gift in our lives. For eight hours, we rest our bodies. We let the thoughts, feelings, and events of our lives tumble through our sleeping minds as they sort themselves through our dreams.

But dreams are not always happy. Some of us are afraid to sleep. Our dreams scare us. We may dream about using again...

Today's Gift - 01/30/2008 Stop fixing and start accepting others

Posted 01-30-2008 at 02:14 PM by Gambaru (Ponders on Today's Gift)

Stop Fixing Others

Dear Higher Power,

When I am overly dependent on others, I try to fix them. I have a real talent in pinpointing what is wrong with other people. But the very thing that enables me to see their defects most often blinds me to the same, sometimes even worse, shortcomings in myself.

Help me stop fretting about others and instead focus on correcting my own character defects.
