Never Alone
She unlocked the gates and opened her heart
And let down the walls that were there from the start
A child so frightened, so hurt and alone
All she wanted was love and a place to call home
A life filled with fear, pain and neglect
Abuse all around and no self-respect
No one to turn to when she was afraid
No one to help heal her soul that was frayed
Innocence lost and feelings of guilt
On a world full of lies her foundation was built
Years of destruction, heartache and pain
With no way out except through the rain
Facing the hurt, the guilt and the shame
All she wanted was someone to blame
Memories creep into her dreams as she lay at night
No longer a girl but still filled with fright
This fear consumes her wherever she goes
Breaking her down but nobody knows
She hides so well inside those walls
Until one day it all crumbles and falls
She opens her eyes and believes what she sees
A guardian angel down on its knees
“I’m here for you and have been for years
Right beside you through all of the tears”
Why didn’t you take away this pain that I’ve felt?
“Because that wasn’t my job and those were the cards you were dealt”
But why would God want to see me cry?
Doesn’t he love me? Please tell me why!
“He loves you, no question, without a doubt
But his plan was for you to figure this out”
“All on your own and in your own time
When you trust in him you will be just fine”
She fell to her knees, face in her hands
And for once in her life she understands
She’s waited so long to get to this place
Past the hurt, the pain and the empty space
It was like for the first time she was feeling his love
So warm, so safe…..sent from above
Finally she’s here, a place to call home
As she takes a deep breath he whispers….. “you are never alone”
