Retreat: Nature, Closure, Meditation and Ice Cream

Posted 08-15-2008 at 12:24 AM by Blake'sTyger

I wrote a long blog in the office today, only to have the computer freeze on me when I tried to post it. So it goes.

And perhaps it's for the best-- it was very much in the long-winded style I am sometimes guilty of.

So instead, a summary of this retreat, my day off yesterday.

Got sushi for lunch and did recovery reading.
Went the the gym.
Went to a nature park I've known about for years, but have never really gone to. Found the perfect...

Retreat III Report: I Was So Much Older Then

Posted 04-19-2008 at 09:28 PM by Blake'sTyger

I was so much older then / I'm younger than that now

Warning: Rambling Report Ahead
I've taken melatonin to help me sleep the past few nights. I still have to investigate the potential problems with this, but I will say that it's been an awakening...no pun intended. I'd forgotten what it feels like to feel tired. Really tired, as in yawning and stretching and saying "I feel like going to sleep". It amazes me how accustomed I'd gotten to just shutting...

Prepping for Retreat III, Sensitively Triggered

Posted 04-18-2008 at 09:46 PM by Blake'sTyger
Updated 04-19-2008 at 12:46 AM by Blake'sTyger

So I just got a call from several old friends. It's one of their birthdays, and they've been...swimming...deeply. The anchor this calls up is frightening-- I miss these friends, and used to love drinking with them. Hearing their voices turned out to be a HUGE trigger-- I'm itching like crazy to go buy beer.

But tomorrow's my third sober retreat, and I've got it planned. My sobriety's too important to give in to the tempting voices of yesterday.

So I'm keeping myself...

Retreat II: "Maybe We Should Ask That Guy-- He Looks Like He's Studying"

Posted 03-16-2008 at 12:27 PM by Blake'sTyger
Updated 03-23-2008 at 10:43 PM by Blake'sTyger

Yesterday was my second monthly "sober retreat", and did I ever need it.

It pains me greatly to say this, and I know it is a letdown to my friends here at SR; especially my sobriety partner, but I believe that honesty and true confrontation of my disease are the only way my efforts will prove successful:
I slipped again night before last, on the eve of my retreat. I feel horrible for doing so, and though I wasn't hungover yesterday during my trip, I wasn't at my...

An (Old) New Kind of Escape

Posted 02-20-2008 at 12:11 AM by Blake'sTyger

I hesitate to write this, because of my cynicism regarding people who are hap-hap-happy all the bloody time. But I can't help it-- I HAVE to get this out:

I went on my first monthly "sober retreat" tonight, and it was absolutely wonderful.

Got home from work and was racing to get out the door to start my drive up to Pasadena, when I decided to throw together a cd for the road. The title of a blog I read today got an old Elton John song stuck in my head, so...
