Patriot Guard Riders....These guys rock!!!!!

Unfortunatly, there's a certain crazed wack job group {Fred Phelps and his westboro "church") out there who are protesting soldiers funerals...in a most ridiculous and vitriolic way.

fair warning...this is beyond belief, and not for young eyes.

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-1306.html

And these are the awsome guys and gals who are defending the families!

ARGH!

I sure am glad for the verse.... you will know them by their fruit.

and then there is a verse... but didn't we do this or that in your name and the Lord wll say...get away from me for I do not know you.

The PGR looks good. I bookmarked that and will be going back to it for sure.

I'm signed up, and fully support the mission statement. Unfortunately, I went in for surgery shortly after enlisting, and have yet to make any of the runs. Soon, I hope. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of missions in Texas.

As for Phelps, and that incestuous vipers' pit he calls a church: methinks Jesus might do them worse than He did the money-changers! They're actually claiming that God hates sexual minorities, and hates us as a nation because we "tolerate" gays and lesbians. I guess all the recent marriage amendments, and our long history of hate crimes and discrimination against sexual minorities, aren't enough for Phelps. Apparently, he won't be happy until we're stoning sodomites to death in the town square, broadcast live on satellite TV.

I'd tell you how I really feel about the SOB, but my language would definitely offend some of us, including me!

Bill,
Way to hold your "words"...

Tolerance… Yeah, I think I could learn something about tolerance. I’m a real alcoholic… That means I’m intolerant of all people that don’t see things MY way. And if they do….. It also pisses me off because “they stole my ideas..”
Isn’t sobriety grand? I like in the text where it talks about loving ones fellows. Well, first I had to learn how to love myself! No place to start like right on the home front. I also like where it talks about us realizing that “earth” people also suffer from “growing” pains… What that means is they also need a 12X12!

Sounds to me like this Phelps cat could use a few lessons…. Right after a good a$$ kicking.
Just my .02

That PGR site has a member selling leather at "cost" to any PGR member.
Some great prices on what looks like top quality stuff.

if these lames ever show up at any of our cemeteries they'll regret it. we have 4, 1 extra every other year, so 5, cemeteries. they are all private property. in this state a sexton is a peace officer with the power of arrest, so they'll be going to jail at least. we won't stand for anything so vile as a bunch of losers destroying a familys last moments with a loved one. Patriot Guard is a great idea. rock on.
God can deal with the idiots later on, i'll deal with them here and now, lol.

I'm not much of a brawler anymore, but the hypocrits that would prey on a families anguish during a time like that need to be kept at bay.

How can they read the same book and come up with such a screwy translation?

I copied this off of a post on my website. Just thought I would share it with all my sober friends too. Forgive my bad language, but I'm not only a dirtbag biker, I'm also a sailor...

I saw a very touching story on HBO tonight. Its called Baghdad ER. Its about the Docs over there and their staffs that treat our wounded troops. WOW! What a story. There is some very graphic s#it, some of those guys get fu**ed right up. And they show a bunch of dead solders. But thats not what I wanted to talk about. There is a story within a story. A story of great patriotism and of our nations heros that ask for nothing and pay a very high cost, sometimes with their lives. They do it willingly and treat each other with the utmost respect and dignity. When the show was over I was awed and had one thought on my mind. These solders not only believe, but are living Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty. I was touched by this. It makes my problems here seem petty and insignificant. When I hear someone bit**ing, I want to belt them in the fu**in mouth and tell them to Suck it up. Your a$$ could be in a lot worse places than out on this ship. It made me grateful for the things I have, that are by the virtue of their sacrifice. To them I say thank you and God bless.

This also makes me think of the Patriot Guard Riders and all the good things they do. We must all support all of our troops. The PGR exemplifies what we should all be living. So once again I find myself beating the PGR drum. Come and join us Together we can make a difference.

I went on a PGR mission.

No uninvited guests were there so it was uneventful in that regard but very eventful in the respect and honor each PGR member brought to the funeral.
They take the mission serious and keep the family's needs in mind though-out.
Local TV was there and putting after-thought to things, I feel they were only there looking for trouble. With each question asked, each PGR member that answered stated the same... We are here to show respect.

If you love your freedom, thank a vet.

Texas just passed a funeral protest ban - no demonstrations an hour before, during, or an hour after any funeral service. That ought to keep the Phelpsoids away, but I bet it won't stop the PGR's missions.

Because PGR only shows up if invited. We would be invited guests or not invited and honor the family's wishes.

Of course. My prediction is that the good reputation PGR has earned, by showing restraint when confronted by Phelpsoids, and by respecting the families' wishes, assure that PGR will continue to be invited guests.

I have been on several PGR missions. Not only do we do funerals, we also do welcome home ceremonies and send offs. Always invited and with the families put first and foremost. The last thing I did was a send off for the ME National Guard, boy was it a touching event. To interact with all the solders and their families. Man are they some great people, all heros in my eyes. When the PGR rolled out for the escort the crowd was clapping in appreciation. I dont think there was a dry eye in the place. To me, its just one small way I can pay my respect to those who serve and have served and express my sincere gratitude for their sacrifice. Its all about giving it away man! The more I give, the more I get. Thank God Im sober. I never got that before. For this real alcoholic, it used to only be about me and what people could do for me. Self centered to the extreme I am grateful to this fellowship and to the 12 step program for showing me a different way to live. You guys may think Im silly, but to me this is profound. Im not the man I was only 8 months ago. Something happened to me, and Im just now starting to realize its totality. I like the man I am today and that also seems weird for me to say. All I wanted when I got here was to not be noticed.
Can a brother get a group hug here! I digress.

Transformation

At the risk of appearing "silly" myself, I want to share this with you Tony. When I came to AA, I was a pig, an animal with dark thoughts and a black heart. AA has transformed me to the point that I absolutely love this 1994 address by Nelson Mandela....

Let your light shine my friend.

Nelson Mandela 1994 Inaugural Address:

Our Deepest Fear is Not That We are Inadequate. Our Deepest Fear Is That We Are Powerful
Beyond Measure , It is our light, not our darkness that most
frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant
gorgeous
Talented and fabulous?
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking, so
that
Other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God within
us.
It is not just in some of us: It is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people
Permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
Our presence automatically
Liberates others.
