BillJ: Hope the back heals up Buddy. Gooch: Hope the head straightens out soon. Recoveringnky: Venting always helps. TonyB: Glad to hear you are in the wind. Sure nice to have a forum where members share themselves. Especially about what goes on in the head. "An alchoholic alone with their own thoughts is behind enemy lines." I have been sober 16 years now, and every year I struggle harder mentally in the late fall and spring. Gooch mentioned SADS. I have been on depression medication for 6 years now and that has helped my head from sinking too low, but when the SADS kicks in, I have to double up on my meetings, prayers, outdoor time (even at -30 degrees) and sharing with other alchoholics. It also doesn't help that riding season up here is only from April to late October at best. Our co-founder Bill sure knew what he was talking about in the Big Book when he wrote that the disease of alchoholism mainly centers in the mind. As you all know, Bill struggled with depression also.. If I don't stay close to AA and AA members, I will start thinking that I am the only one that thinks the way I do. Then my disease of "terminal uniqueness" will drive me to isolating and I will end up "behind enemy lines." Sure am glad I met you folks in this forum. Maintaining connections to like minded AA's is critical to my recovery, no matter where I find them. The good news is that I should be able to rescue my ride from the storage unit down in southern Ontario in another week or so. It is about 3 degrees celcius here now and 10 degrees has always been my lower limit for any rides longer than an hour. It will be about a 10 hour ride to get my girl home here to Sault Ste. Marie. Can't wait. Thanks for being here. Rarly

Never heard that saying about "behind enemy lines" before, but I definitely relate! As for connections: this and other forums helped keep me sane while I was laid up from my accident, and continue to be part of my daily fellowship. It's especially cool, being able to share two big loves of my life: recovery and riding!

Suns been out for a coule days and the temps have made it into the 60's .. I wanted to clear out the garage tonight and bring the dyna down from the barn, but had to get my mom down to a docs appt, grab a few groceries, and find out what my daughter plans on doing. She's been in Georgia for the last couple months and is getting discouraged. I guess she wants to come back up here and spend some time until her next adventire. Tmorrow night after I get my check into the bank and send her $$ for a plane ticket, I may make it out to the garage. With gas going up again, I have another reason to start riding the scoot to work as soon as next week. That and once my daughter gets here and drives the ditchfinder, I'll probably only get behind the wheel when it needs the tank filled. I'm starting to do a little better. was only late for work once this week and not by much, and have about 4 hrs of OT in allready. Hey Rarly .. Ever heard of a place called Calabogy? |

Rarly, "Calaboogie" brings up this sportbikers' page, and a reference to a run in Ottawa. Also found a link to a C&S bikers' forum that includes folks from Canada, but couldn't find a specific reference to a Calaboogie Run. If memory serves, one of the Canadian SBU members goes by Calaboogie. If you want, I can ask.

Calabogie is west of Ottawa. I dunno about a run. somebody named Shaffer had a fish camp up there and we rode up to drink Canadian beer, get with nature and bay at the moon. this was about 20 years ago. I think we were on stone lake.

Since we're on the subject of Canada: I'm currently reading Rush drummer Neil Peart's autobiographical Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road, which begins with him climbing aboard his BMW R1100GS, leaving his home in Quebec, and making his way across Canada. For a better "visual" of his travels, I'm following Peart's route in my road atlas, getting to "know" a little about Canada's geography as I read. I just started this book, but just finished his earlier one, The Masked Rider , about bicycling through Western Africa - a place I never want to be! He tells a great story. It just sounds like a hell of a place to go touring! :andy: |
