interested but I don't have $80.00 Wooooo that is 80,000.00 *LOL* Nice looking ride. I like the colors. I would never own anything like that though. You need clean them... I just like to ride and let the rain clean what it cleans. A nice puddle every so often does a nice job of cleaning the underside. I would have that bike trashed in 30 days *LOL*

I'm guessin' your buddy is gonna be holdin' that puppy for a while. $80K for any bike is too danged much, and especially for one that personalized. Think about it. What are the odds of someone with $80K to burn having exactly the same tastes as your friend? They could build their own for that kind of bread. I wish him luck, though. It is a purty thing. For my own tastes, I'm with Best: don't want nothin' I gotta wash and wax!

I am with ya all. I want something I can ride and not worry about the paint, leaving it alone etc... I also forgot to mention from end to end this bike is 110" I'm 6'2"...and too short - unless I plaster my face to the tank. This was a project his dad started but pasted away while building it. He finished more for his father then himself. To make a short story long, both of his Dad's (Even longer story) pasted away within a year of each other and left him executor of both wills. He made over 2 million on the sale of the houses alone. It goes like this if you bought a house in 1975 for 50k its now worth at least 800k now. who knew it was going to later be called Silicon Valley. I had a small part in building this monster and have been to a many a show with it. From start to finish it took almost four years to finish. His Dad was...Lets say hadnt found the rooms of NA. So some of the other "vendors" kind of disappeared when he passed away. We found them....eventually. But what a pain in the arse this thing is the polishing, cleaning, setting up the display, tearing it down. I mean it was fun to meet other owners and the people as you know are just a hoot. I b1tch about it now but I cant wait till the next show. I talked to him about this 80k thing, he kind of hinted that the wife wanted to sell it. So I think this is his attempt to appease her (knowing it wont sell at 80k) but it keeps her off his back. But he also said if anyone has the $$$ he would sell it. Money will do that sometimes.... Oh well if you ever hear in coversation "Hey I am looking to spend 80k on a custom bike" you can say "HEY I KNOW JUST THE GUY!" LMAO 80k for bike is alot but its not really that much for a custom bike in California. You should go to Arlen Ness's shop in Dublin*. I just about crapped my pants at the prices there, and the scary thing is there are very busy! He does have a detailed parts list that totals over 95k w/trailer and everything. *Dublin, CA. If you ever get a chance to go to Northern California, it would be a nice little stop for ya to check out The Dublin Arlen Ness shop has a full assembly line for the bikes he sells around the world. Its like a really big bike/toy store.

Speaking of Ness and what money will do to you. I grew up in San Leandro and used to go into his small shop as a kid to look at his "real" choppers and dream . I have some of his mirrors on my Scout, but I could never afford one of his present customs, nor do I care for them as much as his old stuff ( Vics are nice though ). I give him his due, he is one of the great ones, but he sold out. You didn't see Indian Larry build any of this space age type junk Ness and others build today. I suppose "old school" is just to much in my heart when it comes to customs. But you are right, I bet they have close to 60 or 80 into it. |

But the notion that he finished it in memory of his Dad; that, I can relate to. If I ever restore the James Comet I mention in my sig line (and that's a big "if"), it will be in memory of my father, who never got over his love for motorcycles, even at the end of his days. I still can't help but shake my head with wonder at the 8 gallon tanks and 65 mile butt pad. lol I'm someplace in the middle with all this clean/ride controversy. I do have the cleaning process minimized to a 25 minute routine with the occasional maintenance polishing. Indian Larry was/is/and will be the epitome of the self evolved custom builder in my opinion. I think the oonly reason Larry had other guys working in his shop was so he wouldn't have to touch anything he wouln't ride hisself. Although I do like Russ Mitchells flat/satin moving parts in motion premise of bike building even if he is a "pretty boy" lol |

I personally dont think he will sell the bike because of his Dad. This bike is close to his heart in many respects, I know his dad wasnt going to build a show bike he would have built a custom bike to ride. That the way he was likes to show off for the ladies.... This guy was an old school pimp!! Always holding and had the ladies/house mouse's crawling over the place. Redwood City in the 60-70-80's and still to this day is one crazy place. I am a generation after most of you, Ness is a business man whats ever going to make the money so I guess he did "sell out". He still makes his old school bikes you just don't hear of them that much. Arlen is the grand father of the chopper, he was building them in the 60's before it was "cool". He is laughing all the way the bank also, I respect that. Indian Larry. (RIP) was the true biker at heart, "this is the way its done!" end of story.....he did some amazing stuff. Dead at 55.....friggin shame. Jesse James from west coast does some alot of old school stuff still. What can I say Im west coast! I respect anyone that lives a dream. Russell Mitchell isn't he the Englishman? or Australian? He does make some cool parts. I believe the calipers on the bike are from mitchell.

The first line on there web site..... "We want to expose the American people to clean, tough European styling - whether they like it or not!" http://www.exilecycles.com/about_exile_cycles.htm "tough European styling..." really?, interesting....... ~GB

Some nice, clean bikes there. Particularly like the chunky little "flat-tracker-on-steroids": ![]() Clean, simple, to the point... Everything a motorcycle ought to be, IMHO. The Flamed Chop isn't bad, either.

Those are nice bikes, but there is no way I could fit on either one of those bikes. I am 6'2" and around 270 (+-20 leaning more toward the plus) I would dwarf both of those bikes. They look sharp for around town. Again I am a generation behind most of you it seems - but I like this style. High tank, nice rake on the front. The spoked wheels look good. I would ride both of these and love every minute I do like a little flash in a bike. ![]() But one thing for sure, I am sure glad there is actually a choice in custom bikes. I mean I feel if it wasnt for Arlen in the 60's Mitchell would have never been a player today. Think how boring it would be if everywhere you went everyone was riding the same bike.

I realize now that I might have made myself clearer if I'd said "Everything I want in a motorcycle," rather than "Everything a motorcycle ought to be."

ill stick with my old ironhead thanks. that stuff is nice for guys with long green and no talent. unless of course you're the seller, then it's good for the old pocket book. i enjoy building mine as much as i do riding , wrenching is an addiction i'll never shake. at any rate, good luck! i do dig exiles style, as you can see in one of my sleds previous incarnations.... |

If they wanted European style they could have used the Bonnie parallel twin. The New Triumph Co is making some good Motors, but Exile obviously knows what sells in America and at Triumph, they still haven't caught on, but I commend them for staying true to the original. And that's just my opinion of course. | |

I had a buddy call me after I got straight... said "hey can ya sell me a gallon of urine? i have to study for a pee test... barrel rolled my Guzzi on the way home from the bar Saturday night." hee hee .... I have seen a couple set up ol school Bbeemers and Gooses before .. Not exactly choppers but some nice bobber baggers. Course when you pull the baffles and shorten the pipes on an R 65 it sounds a little like a crop duster. |
