| The silly season
It is the topic of most meetings. For a good reason. The holidays are tough on all of us. More so for the newcomer. Here are some survivale tips I have learned through out my recovery. 1. Remember your higher power is in charge. 2. Go to more meetings than normal. 3. Spend more time with your sponser, maybe even work a step or twelve. 4. If going around family and friends who drink or use. Don't go! explain that a useing atmosphere is unsafe for you. If you must go take God and a recovering friend. 5. Always have a way out. Try not to get stranded in an unsafe place. Drive yourself or take a cab. Make your plans to Inclued an ecape plan if things get to hairy. 6. USE THE SERINITY PRAYER FOR ALL IT IS WORTH. 7. Read any recovering books. The big book and the basic text. 8. Remember youcan start your day over at any time with a little meditation. 9. Standing in line is a part of life. Also a good time to practice patients, also to meet new freinds. 10. If company parties are being held in a bar, and this makes you uncomfortabel. DON"T GO. If it is mandatory take a friend from the program, and God. I think though if you go you will be reminded of why you got into recovery. Voluteer to be the disignated driver. 11. When asked if you would like a drink or a drug. Ask them if they would like to go to a meeting. 12. PRAY PRAY PRAY. Happy hollidays everyone. Be safe and stay clean no mater what. Just for today I do not have to use. |

Good stuff, .44! I especially recommend 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8! And those tips work all year long, too!
