| Put it away?
Wife keeps saying..."isn't it time to put the bike away?" Well the snow flurries that turned out to be 3-4" or so had me starting to think she just may be right. But I am stubborn and held out. Ended up with 2 nice ride days that I was able to enjoy. Had 4 days but was only able to use 2 of them. Ordered winter gloves, a snap on full shield, and a head coverying. Will be trying to get another 3 weeks before I start to think about putting it away. This year I will bring the bike inside. Empty the tank and bring it into the basement. Take the aftermarket off and maybe look into getting it chromed CORRECTLY. All the aftermarket chrome is filled with freckles. Bike may get a new(expanded) tank this winter as well. Come spring time, it will shine like it did when I first took it home. Yup best time to polish and clean is time that it can't be used. If you can ride, why clean and use up good ride time *LOL* :motorcycl

Like Bill J says ..... with an 11 month riding season it's hard to have the time to pull them down and do all that custom stuff. lol I was out yesterday.. rode 6 miles downtown, drug store, bank, and grocery store. I had 2 of thise plastic bags stuffed full and this lady in the parking lot looks at me and says "how are you going to get those home?" I laughed unzipped one bag and stuffed them in with a little room to spare, and said "Oh I still have room for 3 more.... but I am wondering how to swing by the lumber yard and get some 16 footers." lol Then I went by my chiropracters and got a tuneup. He got a new massage chair..wow! That thing is nearly as good as person except it doesn't get my neck all that well. Walked out to the counter when I was done and asked them where I could get more tokens for that ride. lol If the roads dry today I'll probably dash out somewhere to get 15 or 20 miles on it. I do have to run the truck over to the lumber yard though and finsih framing the back of my barn or I'm going to be shoveling snow off the bike while it is in storage. |

Temp said 43 along the highway through Boston. New head gear and gloves for added warmth. turtleneck sweater on as well. All feels ok for the first 15 miles of the ride. The second 15... Gloves work great for 15 minutes as tested *LOL* Should have put on long johns as well. Legs starting to feel the cold. Feet are doing ok or do I just not have any feeling in them? Pass the pond and hit the open spaces of the highway. Turn onto 128 N. Temp feels like it has dropped greatly. Only 8 more miles to go. Starting to think the cost of electric vest and gloves would be worth every penny. Turn into work's parking lot to see those who are leaving are out removing frost from ther windows. Two hours later and my finger tip is starting to feel normal again *LOL* Still all in all it was a good ride and with the bike I get home an half hour earlier in the AM. Bikes are allowed in the carpool lane. OK now to add the wind gaurds for the hands. Thermal socks and pants. Face shield on back order. I should be ok for another 3 weeks (as long as it doesn't snow) At what point does the desire to ride and the line of being crazy intersect? *LOL*

It's our line so we draw it anywhere we want it. I draw mine around 38 degrees for short rides and 48 degrees for longer rides. Ol Don who passed on a few years ago at the ripe old age of 100, was one of my heroes and legends. I used to see him draw his line in the snow with 3 wheels with his sidehack Indian in Feb as he was leaving for Daytona before it was an overemphasized media "biker event" I was 14 or 15 then so he was at least into his 70's. He wore a leather flyers cap, goggles, ( no lid law then), long fleecelined, sheepskin coat, and those fur gauntled mittens that come up over your sleeve. That time of year, it's close to 3 or 400 miles before the climate improves.. Don ran and operated Don's cycle repair wrenchin on Harley's and Indians for 70 + years. A bud of mine from many years ago used to live near Don and ride his chopped Sporty over to Don's to get parts, advice etc. but Don wouldn't work on his motor unless Danny pulled the mill outta the frame and carried it into the shop. In fact He used to tell him he couldn't park the chopper near the door cuz he was afraid it would scare off the real Harley riders. lol My other buddy Tony used to go see Don every once in a while and was always amazed at the fact that Don didn't believe in inflation.. at least on motorcycle parts. If he sold a set of generator brushes in 1956 for $1.75 then he'd charge you the same in 1999. I never got the oportunity to get to know Don, other than seeing him out putting on that sidehack. My dad used to get his bike fixed there but he sold it in 63' when I was 5 and I can barely remember Don's shop. Don's obituary Don's 100th birthday celebration They don't make em' like this guy anymore. | |

Hey Guys, I just had to stop in and say "Hi". While I was reading, I remembered when I was with my second husband, and we lived in Philly, and I worked an hour away in Delaware. Our car was shot (addict vehicle) and all we had was the bike. He used to ride me to work and back in January. It was d*mn COLD. We had friends living with us then, and they used to have hot soup, tea and blankets warmed in the dryer for us when we got home. Oh man, the double decker bridge by the airport was a b*tch!! My way of saying we never put it away.
