| Got a little ride in on Monday
As I woke up on Monday my thought was.... Do two things on the "to do" list then go for a ride. Thing #1 simple enough. remove a old ceiling light and put the new one in place. Old had a 4 inch base, new had a 3. Simple enough fix... trip to the hardware store (on the bike) and return with the fix. Step 2...install grrrrr The way the light is made it won't install. Old house, old box, new style light fixture. return to hardware store (on bike) Collect needed supplies. bracket doesn't fit. need to return to hardware store again (on bike of course) get needed bracket, (will need tap 2 of the holes for the machine screws) start install. Get tap set and then remember it is metric(bought for bike work) arrrrrgh! return to hardware store and thinking I should either bring the store to my house or the house to the store. Get the 8-32 needed tap (test at hardware store against screw to be sure it is correct) things are working well. get home via bike ride and restart the install AGAIN *LOL* Light installed and now on to item #2. replace outside porch light fixture. Take a kitchen chair and place it 2 inches to the edge of top step. Stand on chair (thinking this may not be safe) remove old light fixture (no meter and test probe is broken) this for sure isn't safe. Start connecting wires and find that no power is to the wires by default. Finish install. Test light ...works fine. 2 jobs down and now for that bike ride. Start out down the road (towards hardware store) pass hardware store just as I start to feel rain drops. Go a little more then round a block for a return as I pass a Dunkin donuts. Stop for a fresh large cup and return home. What cold have been frustration for the day ended up being 80 miles of bike ride *LOL* Bungee cords and a bike make for a easy day of to do lists. Now if there was a good way of reglueing 2 by 4s back together after they were cut for bike size at the lumber yard...I could do another "to do" and still get some ride time in. Guess I will need the cage for that. Will use the cage for the brick work as well. 20 trips on the bike with bricks....well I will use the cage for that also *LOL*

| Used to work 3rd shift. Took the bike to work one night and girlfriend worked there too. She'd been reminding me that I was going to dig up my Iris bed, gleen the ryzhomes, and share some with her and other friends. ( after about 5 years you can get 200 new plants out of 100 of the buggers). I reminmded her I didn't have a pitchfork, so she suggested we go out for breakfast with some of the other crew at work and then go over to the hardware store and get one and she would bring it over in her car later. Well after breakfast, she needed to give some one a ride from the restaurant and told me to go ahead and get the pitchfork, then she would meet me at the hardware store. After I waited an hour sitting outside in the parking lot holding a pitchfork I decided to strap it to the bars and head home. Of course I needed to stop for gas that morning so I had to endure the raised eyebrows of the other customers. I love summer projects that always seem to need small items from the hardware store. This thread gives me a great idea for a survey. |
