| it's not a barstool
when Dawn was alive she used to have a poster with a motorcycle on it that said just that. I will never ride under the influence. crazy enough just riding with all the crazies out there. i wonder how the biker bars do so well.

Back in 1989 I had the same bike as you, a Rebel 250. St. Patrick's Day, I rode it to three different bars, at each one I swilled down pitchers of green beer. One of my memories of that evening is crawling around on my hands and knees in the parking lot trying to remember where I'd parked the bike. I actually managed to get home alive, then foolishly drove my truck back to get the helmet I'd left at the bar. I believe God kept me alive when I used that bike as a barstool, although I'm not sure why other than he must've had a higher purpose for me. Later on that year I moved to Massachussetts and sold the bike, thankfully I had enough sense to know that I was going to kill myself if I kept drinking and riding. Bought a new bike 2 years ago, one of my sobriety gifts to myself. I don't have to tell anyone here that there's nothing like riding clean and sober, it's a feeling that only we understand.

I guess it could be. Bought a black one around that time. When I sold it one of the taillights was busted from falling over inside the moving van. Ouch. I liked that little bike though. Had a few somewhat sober rides through the deserts of Arizona.

mine was originally black but it is blue now. looked like it was dropped a couple of times. back flashers cracked and mirror scraped. no dings on the tank though.

Being an '85, yours is pretty much a classic at this point!

Post us a picture. I use webshots.com where I upload a picture and then get a link and copy and paste that to the thread.

well the guy that is working on it says it should be ready by this weekend. last he was waiting was for the rubber strip that goes in the wheel to keep the spokes from poking through. i was psyched to get it...but it will be a bit longer. it will almost be like learning to ride again.lol. i rode that bike all through the winter here in massachusetts...coldest day was 1 degree. my hands felt like someone smashed them with a sledge hammer. and i had on a pair of leather thinsulate along with thick winter gloves over them and still they felt that way.

You AA or NA or other? Do you go to meetings? How long have you been clean or sober?

actually my wife was the alcoholic/substance abuser. i was the clean one. i came to this site at the time because i found it very informative. she died 2 years ago and i still come here even though i really don't need to. i see her in alot of people here. and if i did not continue to come here i would never have met good people like you. i try to offer advice every now and then when i can. like the grieving process or things that helped dawn. her last postings are under substance abuse. her thread is sobriety cleans us up well. she was so happy at the sober time she had. anyway here is another reason why alcohol is bad and stupid. I live in Southern Missouri in the Ozarks. Last Saturday we held our AA distirict meeting in Gainsville Mo., a town nestled inbetween two lakes and surrounded by several clear running rivers and creeks. The meeting place is an old two room house with no running water. There is a fine outhouse for those who need it. Most of the meetings, even in winter take place outside around a huge fire pit and campfire with about 30 lawn chairs surrounding it. A couple of us left Mountain Grove about 70 miles north, on Saturday morning at 8am. There was some fog and the temps were in the lower 60's. Needed a jacket to keep the cool off. We rode at a slower speed because of the fog and meandered through the hills south. About 45 minutes out, the sun came put and burned off the fog. We finished the ride into the town of Gainsville. We were early so we went to the square and had breakfast at a cafe called Skeeters. I have two eggs sunny side up, hasbrowns, bacon and toast. The meal had just the right amount of country grease to make it wonderful. We left a good tip and then headed out of town to the meeting place. After the business meeting lasting two hours, three of us rode a different route home. Our first stop was on Bryants Creek at Hodgenson Mill. A beautiful spot with a large spring that emerges from a cave. The mill is restored, and sits on top of the cave. We then rode to Twin Bridges were the Norfork river and a smaller creek join. We shared more there, and then rode the remaining 40 miles through the winding roads of the Ozarks home. All in all I rode about 150 miles............all of it sober and sane and serene.

Lord that sounds nice, toad. In fact I can't decide what sounds nicer, the ride or the meeting place. I guess they're both perfectly fine, huh? Thanks for sharing, it gave me a nice visual for an "armchair ride".

| Yes my friend,I am still riding. picked up a new seat a few weeks ago and just got a new sissy bar a few days ago. tomorrow I am taking the erc through the msf so I am little nervous about it for no reason and it is supposed to rain to boot. My daughter is excited to ride with me...but it won't be till next year probably...her feet barely reach the footpegs. thanks for asking and I hope you are all doing the best you can.

passed the erc. only got 5 points from doing the 2 u turns in a box...accidently went over the line by a couple of inches because i was too focused looking at the other side. didn't see the line till I was on it. missed it by like 3 inches. everything else was pretty much flawless. I shouldn't have volunteered to go first.lol
