Ride safely, I hope the road gives you and your daughter many enjoyable miles together. When I got my bike a couple years ago I took my kids on a couple rides. Then my ex put the kabosh on that, wouldn't allow it. Oh well, I'll save that for another time. I hope you're having cooler weather than us. I've been riding this weekend, it's over 114 here. Still fun to ride though!

i LOVE TAKING MY DAUGHTER OUT ON THE MOTORCYCLE. SHE LOVES IT. she makes me smile. I will look at the mirrors and see her waving a little hand in the wind. airing it out or just imagining she is flying. her mom would be proud of her.

Hey Jazzed, good to hear from you. I do know where Moberly is located. It is about 3 hrs from where I live. I live in the southern part of the state and moberly is located in the central part. Do you come through there often? I live right off US 60, that runs across the southern part of the state. If you happen to ever be in that part of the state send me a PM and I will give you my cell number and we can get together. I will be close to moberly on the 29th when the Patriot Guard Riders will have a Ride Captains meeting.........that is two weeks from Saturday. Hurricane actually lives only about 1 1/2 hrs from moberly. Good to hear from you again........you stood by me at times when others came down on me for my beliefs.......I remember this....thanks

well a moron crashed his car into me and my motorcycle this past thursday mon around 7am.t boned me. said he didn't see me. bike is unridable, and I have a fractured radius, anklne and a laforte fracture to my face and nose...but I dtill can't wait to gey back in the rider seat again. a motorcycle lawyer is coming over tomorrow. they are very interested in the case, say it is a really good case and they specialize in only motorcycle accidents so they know all the motorcycle laws very well. it could have been worse.

Perhaps I am missing something, but it seems like there are a LOT of motorcycle accidents reported in this forum... Am I missing something about a reason why this might be? I mean, i get the impression not very many of the people here live in cities... peace... I am glad you will be riding another day ![]() -Goat |

Case in point: Last October my wife and I were riding down a country road on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon. We were entering a wide left-hand curve with beaucoup visibility, but no shoulder, when I saw a black pickup entering the far end of the curve at a high rate of speed, much faster than the car in front of him. Knowing he might try to pass in the curve, I slowed down and moved to the right side of my lane, to let him see my headlight and back off. Well, he crossed the double yellow line, started to pass the car, and saw my headlight, but decided he just didn't give a damn. I got over as far as I could, and if he'd even backed off the accelerator, or braked the tiniest little bit, we'd probably have been okay. He didn't. Instead, he hit the back of my bike, throwing my wife and I off the road and into a field. Our friends, on the bike behind us, saw this, and ran off the road to avoid a head-on collision. The pickup just kept going, leaving the four of us for dead in a ditch. My wife and both our friends were seriously injured, my bike was totaled, and my friend's brand new CVO Dyna was damaged. The pickup driver's response to this carnage was to run and hide, and try to get the truck he was driving repaired, to cover up his involvement. Fortunately, we were able to get some publicity for our plight, and someone dropped a well-deserved dime on the creep. In early August, he pled guilty to three felony counts of Failure to Stop and Render Aid. He'll be sentenced next week. Unfortunately, that doesn't undo the damage the jerk did to our lives. Our injuries have healed, but my wife, who had just gotten her motorcycle license, and was talking about getting a bike of her own, will never get on a bike again. On top of that, she doesn't want me on one, either. Our friends, who are still suffering the injuries they received in the crash, are going through much the same issues at their house. On top of that, the motorcycle I was riding, which I'd spent two years adapting and customizing to my needs, was destroyed in the crash. As you can see, being in the city, or out of it, has squat to do with motorcycle safety. You're vulnerable anywhere and everywhere, and even when you're doing everything "right" (as we were, riding sober, within the speed limit, headlights and helmets on, etcetera) some moron can come along and take you down. It sucks, but that's the way it is. Y'all be careful out there.

![]() I suppose my experience may be skewed a bit. A city friend of mine was out at my house helping me put shingles on my garage and he said "I've been up here all day and I've only seen two cars and an amish buggy on the road".... so from my point of view city is different from country because in the country there's little opportunity to encounter other vehicles. The deer are really and truly a much larger concern. There's no culture of driving aggression here either. Also, I suppose Ohio is a little more biker-friendly than most states. If you head to Columbus on a nice day it seems half the population is on a bike. Of course there are still accidents... Most of the stories I've heard involve deer or beer Oh, and there was the one doofus who had his cruise control on and his arms folded and therefore lost his gold wing to a raccoon. So my comment wasn't so much about city vs country riding anyway... it just seems like there are a lot of horror stories being posted from a relatively small pool of riders. I tend to want to know why things appear skewed, and in this case the incidence of incidents appears very high. -Goat | |

Hey Goat, A bunch of us from this forum rode (some trailered ....bj and best) to Versailles State park in Indiana and met. That was two years ago. We had a guy from Ohio who used to post on this forum and went by the name of Guzzi. He rode an older Motoguzzi, and rode with a sober MC from Ohio. Ever heard of him??....He might have been from the Columbus area. We've got a picture of him somewhere on the forum. He made the best home made pepper sauce I ever ate.

As a result, motorcycle crashes and hit-and-runs of all types are on the rise. If you look at my post about Eric Laufer, you'll see what I mean. And between Eric's death and our crash in October, another Central Texas rider was also struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. That's just in the Austin area, and those are just the motorcyclists! It's just as bad for cagers and pedestrians, and it is a statewide epidemic. As for city versus country: it used to be that a Sunday ride like the one we were one was the safest thing in the world. On that particular Sunday, we had someone almost take us out that morning, as the ride was just beginning. She jammed past me in my lane, and cut a hard left directly in front of me, forcing me to brake hard, and narrowly avoid laying it down. When we caught up to her at the next light, she justified it by claiming we hadn't used our turn signals. WTF??? That justifies killing people? Sheesh! Then, of course, there was the crash that afternoon. ![]() It's apparent too many cagers just don't care about riders, peds, even each other. Makes me want to crawl in a hole and hide.

what it looked like to me was that the guy was trying to beat the car behind me to the intersection by cutting in front of him. so he accelerated went left over the yellow lines without signaling. I had no time to react because he hust suddenly turned right into me. I was going about 40 mph. it was about 7 am, light outside, no wet conditions and I was riding with all my equipment on.hit me on my left side and all I remember was landing face first on the street. broke my left radius bone in my arm, a possible fracture in my left leg(lawyer wants them to xray that again) i have an aircast on my leg, and a loforte fracture of my upper jaw and broken nose. I had surgery done friday night on my left arm, they put plates and screws in there, and had plates put in my jaw and nose this pasr monday morning. I don't know if the guy was drunk or anything because I was face down the whole time I was there. it was like 3 mins till ambulance got there and took me away so I wasn't around long to get any facts. my lawyer is takung care of things and I haven't seen the accident report yet, but the accident reconstruction cop was there and he said that the guy behind me saw the whole thing and his story is exactly like I said.I have no info on any of the guys ,like I said my lawyer is taking care of all the paperwork and all that stuff. my lights automatically turn on when the bike is on and the cop verified it himdelf. there is no way he couldn't have seen me. he just was not paying attention. don't know if he was cited or what.but he called 911 and so did the guy that was behind me. I can just imagine what the guy behind me must have thought when he witnesed the accident. it must have seemed surreal. thank you guys for your concern. I am down but not out...can't wait to ride again. I am not dettered nor will I be a victim of fear.7am, what a way to start the day, but thank god I live to ride again and that I did not lose any body parts or teeth. but I feel sad for my bike because i had put so much work into it and now it is most likely totalled, massive damage everywhere on it.looks like it flipped, there is alot of top damage, the speedo was crushed as well as the headlight. people were out at that time because it was 7am so they are all on their way to work. I am feeling better already ,can't chew food for about 6 weeks.
