Yeah, I know, I still have to post my story, but this stuff keeps getting revealed to me and I would love some feedback on this.. I never thought of myself as a drama girl. I've always tried really hard to stay out of the spouse's family drama (and there is a whole LOT), friend drama, even drinking drama. But one of my new dear friends, Jeannie, and I were talking about this and I realized this: That even though I SAY I'm not a drama girl, I seem to really get into the drama of others, and if I feel passionate enough about it, I will even step in. Example: Reading other forums that I shouldn't even be involved in, or reading. Granted, there are some that I read because I am following a particular person's journey and like to know what to pray on for them. BUT, and here's the big BUT, there are some posts that I KNOW are going to be inflammatory or push a button for me, just by the title or even by the person posting it. And even when I don't respond, which I hardly ever do, I sometimes take it personally even though it has nothing to do whatsoever with me, and I sometimes even dwell on something someone said. The only forums that I normally feel comfortable in and post are this one and the Christians in Recovery forum. I wonder if this is why I like reality t.v. so much? Food for thought. So am I really a drama queen in recovery?

| Speaking About Us When we check our own archives of posts, we may find that we all have a level of drama we involve ourselves in. I find that when I get (sick &)tired enough of something I am involved in, I try to remove myself from it, or it from me. That's what the recovery is about. If you're in recovery, a little drama is normal and expected (who's perfect?). Shoot, you'd have to be a hermit to not have drama. It's what we are able to do about our part in it that will count.

| The alternative of isolation for me is far more deadly.

You say "Drama Queen" like that's a bad thing! I think Jazz and Toad hit it square. Life comes with drama. For me, it's a matter of not allowing the drama to take over my life. If that means avoiding certain on-line forums or particular posters, or staying out of other folks' affairs except to pray for them, so be it. I can just say "God, please bless that person as you have blessed me, with everything that is good in their lives. Your will, not mine, be done." That way, I'm not involved in deciding what they need, and I don't have to fret about the outcome. Voila! Less drama!

Really, like Bill said, the drama aint the issue, it's what we do about it, how we react to it, all that changes as we grow, somehow, most of it just doesn't seem so dramatic any more. |
