For me, it took a number of false starts - so many that I quit counting days, and quit picking up the thirty, sixty, and ninety day chips groups in Texas give out to mark lengths of sobriety. In fact, I had to be ordered by my sponsor (who never gave orders) to celebrate my first year of real sobriety, because I still wasn't convinced I wouldn't slip again. That was thirty years ago, and if that isn't proof that AA works, well, I don't know what is! So keep comin' back!
