Why is it?

Why is that the closer it gets to the time I celebrate my AA birthday, the more anxiety I feel? It seems so crazy to me! I have already reached another year, but the "party" is Friday and I'm full of anxiety inside. I don't get it??? It seems to happen every year. I didn't realize "why" I was feeling anxious and nervous and blah all that the same time until I remembered that the party is Friday. It's a speaker meeting, thank Goodness!! Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest....better out than in, right? Out here and shared with other AAers and friends, it doesn't have control over me and maybe I can deal with it. Inside, it controls my thoughts and feelings.

Thanks for letting me share!

Hugs,
Kym

I think that all of us feel some anxiety when we near our sobriety birthday. That is us that have 10 years and less. My sponsor will celebrate 50 years Easter Monday, and he seems to go from one BD to the next graciously. Knowing that we are only a sip away from a slip puts pressure on us newcomers with only 5-10 years. I have seen people go back out in the last couple of years that had 7 yrs, 8 yrs, 10 yrs, and 20 yrs. Our sobriety is very delicate, and must be maintained spiritually daily. Maybe a little anxiety could be good. Might keep us humble.

You will do good Kym........just step up and get that bronze chip with the "V" on it. The newcomers need to see it.

I guess that's why I've heard it called "Anniversary Anxiety"! Congrats on your upcoming 5 years Kym!
