Thumbs up TOPIC: I'm Not A NORMIE.

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I a truely grateful.

Would I have admitted I was bodily and
mentally different before I came to in
AA? Just think about it.

Physically, I was in great shape, or so
I thought. A mom of 2, exercising regularly.

Around 2ish every afternoon Id awake
from my afternoon nap with the kids
and begin to descend from the long day
with a tall cold glass of refreshing wine.

So I thought, when in reality I was preparing
for what eventually ended up to be a near
death experience followed by a 3 month
absence from a horrible car accident.

A hand full of pills and one more arguement
and away i went.

Next day proved to be different when the
officers came to take me away in the back
of a police car heading off to a 28 day rehab
stay. Family intervention had just occured.

It was then that I admitted I could never
drink like a normal person. However as I
listened to those before me..."old-timers"
I had gone to far and could never drink
like a "normie" again. It was a message
that scared the hell out of me.

After receiving the knowledge and tools
in recovery, i accepted the fact that
i was mentally and bodily different from
most other people and should never
take another drink again.

Since then by following the AA principle
and steps so freely passed on to me
I have been living the AA way of sobriety
and reality one day at a time, happy,
joyous and free.

And that's the way it works for me.

Thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for sharing Sharon.

By practicing these principles in all our affairs......we work it, and it works.

But actually my willingness allowed God to do for me what I could not do for myself.
