Bill W. Road a Harley ![]() Hey All! I usually don't post in the Biker's Forum but when I found this on line, I had to share it. It's Bill W, the co-founder of AA and his wife, Lois. Pretty cool, huh? God Bless & Ride Safe, Judy

Yup, it's called a WL. They were used a lot in the World War. Almost all wartime WL's had sidehacks-lucky Alice!

FD4 should take that photo to the "biker haters" meeting... Just pin it up somewhere in the room and wait for someone to ask who it is. Then calmly answer, "That's Bill W. and his wife. You remember him, don't you?" ![]()

Jazz, you trouble maker!!! That's an excellent idea! I used that picture when putting together a CD case of speaker CDs for a friend of mine's AA birthday. He goes on long trips on his bike and I thought he could use the CDs in place of a meeting in the event he wasn't able to get to one on his journey. The case had a place for a picture and I thought that one was appropriate. If any of you get a chance to read The Diary of Two Motorcycle Hobos (I think that's the correct name), you should check it out. I have read it twice now...it's Lois' account of the travels that she and Bill went on before he got sober. She's very kind to him and doesn't "slam" him but simply recounts their adventures. Great story!!! It's a beautiful day in Kentucky today!! Sobriety rocks!!!!! ![]()

I have a t-shirt - a gift from a sober friend - with that photo on it, and the words "Bill W. Rode A Harley". I also have one of Lois' books, titled Lois Remembers, which includes photos and sketches from their lives, including the motorcycle trip. Haven't read the book yet, but it looks interesting. BTW, I've heard Lois did much of the driving on that sidecar rig. Maybe I can confirm that when I read her book.

Yes sir! She sure did most of the driving...also they did mostly tent camping in cold, snow, ice, rain and some nice weather too. She was a real trooper, that's for sure! She loved that man of hers and was there supporting him the whole time!! Gotta love that!!!

Love the idea of putting the picture up at a biker hatters meeting, jazzed! Where do I pitch in few bucks to make posters of this? recoveringnky, Thats an awesome birthday gift. For me, the most thoughtful gift is one that supports my Recovering. Shows that the giver is wishing me many more happy birthdays to come. When I was drinking, I got lots of fifths of Bacardi for birthdays or Christmas and once I had one shot too many that helped put me into the pity pot mode, I ended up thinking to myself, " . . . well, now how sick is this? These people should know I'm an alcoholic and junky. Nothng like giving me something to help speed along the process? What's up with that? I'd love to check out the two books mentione here. Anyone know if thy're availale just on line or possibly somewhee local? Thanks for letting me share Judy

Here is where I got the book for my friend on ebay. DIARY OF TWO MOTORCYCLE HOBOS GREETINGS FROM LOIS - eBay (item 200201283886 end time Jun-17-08 17:51:24 PDT) It's a copy someone has made. The book in its original form is quite expensive as it's out of print. Yeah, I'm all about gifts promoting recovery!!!!!!! Those speaker CDs I got Martin rocked!!!!! They were people like Dave M. from Megadeth, Stevie Ray V., Paul W. (actor), Anthony H. (actor). I made a copy for myself!!!! I got those from: eBay Store - shot8tui: Have a great sober day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs, Kym

OMG! Thanks for that Rarly! I was at an Anniversary of a local club here in Dayton a few months ago and when one of the old timers was speaking of AA long ago, he spoke of his Dad being in a picture that was taken with the members wearing masks for anonymity reasons. I ran across this picture on another website, but I had no idea it was here in Dayton. I never even put two and two together. As you can see, I live in Dayton. I clicked onto the web site you mentioned and walah! This was one of the many pics listed. I've already printed it up & put it in my Big Book so the next time I see Tom, I can give it to him. I don't think he has a copy because I'm sure you would either brought it to the Anniversary celebration or at least mention that he had a copy. ![]() Tom & I thank you so much! God Bless Judy

FYI, The Book, Diary of Two Motorcycle Hobos, is available for download for free on the cool site that Rarly shared, cybriety.org. If memory serves me, (sometimes it doesn't) there's close to 200 pages, so I'm assuming it's the whole book. I've got eye strain from checking everything out on that site. Thanks again! God Bless & Thank God . . . Just for Today, Judy
