God's got a sense of humor...

It's been over 9 years now since the scam of the century. Over 9 years since 'Mr. Wonderful' put an engagement ring on my finger, swept me off my feet, whispered sweet nothings, and when the workman's comp settlement was gone (from injuries/surgeries at a job I had the year before), and I had taken care of his two beautiful daughters for a month when they came to visit, he rode off into the sunset, with my old rigid sporty, and pretty much disappeared off the face of this earth. That was my first and last experience with internet love.

So, struggling over the years with low paying jobs in this podunk town, raising my youngest daughter, not seeing a whole lot of anything other than barely getting by, I started shoveling dirt over that dream that maybe I would get another ride up and running. It was just too painful to think about.

I hated the big events, especially Sturgis because there would be a boatload of scooters coming through town on their way/back home, and my house is up on a hill looking right down on the highway.

I'd hear the rumble and I don't know how to describe it other than it was a physical pain in my chest.

Anyway, I had posted in the AA forum here at SR that I am finally going to finish up college now that the youngest is almost 20, and when I went to enroll, I found out I actually have enough credits to graduate with a double degree with just a couple extra classes!

I've started digging the dirt back off of that dream.

This morning when I got up, it wasn't 30 minutes before I heard the damned chainsaw buzzing outside in my alley. You see, the old Napa building just down the hill from me is now a bike shop (how ironic is that), used bikes, crotch rockets, a few harleys, 4 wheelers, you name it, he's got it. Unfortunately my alley seems to be good testing grounds for those annoying gawdawful crotch rockets, especially on Saturday mornings.

So I sat here and laughed. I had been shoveling dirt on those dreams and apparently God figured I needed a nudge, albeit annoying as crap, on a regular basis.

Do I dare hope? I've got to. I'm sure not getting any younger. I'll finally have the degree that's needed to get that job where I can afford a bit more than ramen noodles and scratchy cheap butt wipe!

Faith is the substance of things hoped for. If you have faith that it will be accomplished and are hoping, whatever you are hoping for will show up.

Hope is the blueprint and faith is the substance by which we build.

I see a new scooter in your life.

What a great read your post was, thanks for sharing...........toad

A nice dream can become a hope and then a reality.
You have done so much and gotten far. In the wind again was a gift from God for me. If it is His will, it will happen.

Oh, God's got a sense of humor, alright! He can be a sick, twisted li'l prankster at times! Good thing He loves us, or we'd really be in bad shape!

Thanks, DeVon, for sharing your story and your dream with us. Hang in there!

Of all the people in this house (forum), I think that God (thru you) sent this story to me. The thanks button doesn't seem to work on my puter and I don't feel it would have been enough of an expression of how your story made me feel, how much it touched me.

Stick around for the miracle. It may not happen to you directly but in seeing it happen to another can also be a miracle in itself.

So, just for today, I will not pick up the first one.

By the way,...:atv (hee-hee)

I had to smile when I read this because Friday night I chaired the AA meeting and we were talking about sticking around for the miracle!

Maybe I'll get me one of these!

I think anything's possible with a good strong program of recovery, faith in a loving God, and doing the footwork required
