Thumbs up TOPIC: Touching Base. Keeping In Touch. How Are You Doing?

Hi, Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcoholic since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

Hello Friends in Recovery.

I not very far away from SR even
if I don't check in on a regular bases.

As I go thru changes in my life....a
new chapter in my life....a new
beginning in my life.....I never ever
want to forget where I came from.
What brought me here to AA.

My life had become unmanageable.
I was completely powerless over
my drinking and countless other
things in my daily life.

With a family intervention, them
doing for me what I couldnt do
for myself back then. Spending
28 days in rehab. Recieveing
the tools and knowledge of my
disease. Today I have a purpose
in life.

I have a joy and a gift of freeedom
from the bondage of drinking that
held me captive for so long.

My purpose today is to give away
what was so freely passed on to me
thru out the yrs....the knowledge
and wisdom of our wonderful
program of recovery.

Today I have the joy to turn the
page and begin a new exciting
chapter in my life. This month
I will be celebrating my one yr
mark at the Bakery where I presently
work and in just a few months
we will be moving into a bigger
one, all fresh and newely built.

I am also in the middle of a divorce
after a 25 yr marriage. That too
is coming along nicely without
complications.

Hopefully in a few months I will
experience another new freedom
I had not experienced before.

Along with that I am enjoying
a new experience with riding
a motorcycle. Not by myself
just yet....but im interested
in taking the riding course
to learn how.

Me, Moi...That in itself
is unbelievable for me to
imagine.....Excitement
fills me when i think of
me on a bike riding solo.

For the time being, my recovery
friend and I ride together on
his Harley Classic and its
AWESOME.

With our HP guiding us all
the way.....our program
to follow every step of
the way....we are anxiously
looking to purchase a new
Road King in possibly a
Crimson Red color before
to long.

The freedom and joy of
riding the roads is definitely
in our system...in our hearts...
souls...and mind....

A new Chapter...a new passion...
a new freedom awaits us as
we continue on our journey in
recovery.

And on that note.....

Feel free to share with me
how things r going in ur life....
new expectations, new joys,
new freedoms.....

Thanks for letting me share.

Hey Sharon............good to hear from you again. Praise God you are doing well.

Possibly you will think about getting together with some of us this August in North Carolina? We will be gathering at Iron Horse Lodge for fun, fellowship, meetings, BBQ, and riddin' through the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina.

Thinking about getting your own bike?............I see it happening!!!

Thank you toad. My own bike? Hmmmm....If it be, then
it will be a wonderful GIFT in recovery. A gift given from
Above.

I love and enjoy riding with a friend right now....maybe
down the road a bike for me would be AWESOME.

Will just have to wait and see. First Things First tho
for now....Divorce and free to begin a new direction
in life.

I find that riding on a bike very different from
that in driving in a car. You get a more personal
connection to the world outside. I experience
the beauty more closely than behind windows
of a car.

Fresh air, sunshine, nature, just everything
up close and personal....

Riding along side a friend or with a group
i can only imagine how exciting that can be.

Well, till then, i will definitely be styling
with Harley boots, vest, black jeans, helment,
shades and accessories to match.....

Baby,,,Im ready to ride....Happy Joyous and FREE.

Hi Sharon,
gosh you are so old!! lol you are 9days older than me.I ride a harley sporster 883L called honey.I sold my car and bought her new 2yrs ago and so she is my transportation.Luckily where i live it is all year riding.Honey is black cherry pearl and keeps me busy polishing her chrome.

For a 25th wedding anniversary present my hubby arranged and payed someone to take me for a long harley ride. The rest is history and i was hooked and enrolled the next day in classes.
Mmmm no one would call me impulsive lol.Anyway a joy of recovery is riding to meetings and i have many friends that ride but unfortunately no women riders yet.

Hubby learnt after me and got a harley but sold it last week so i am a bit sad about that but he did not have the bug.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the wiind on the face and i always say the serenity prayer just as i am starting my bike up.

take care
jen

That is so cool Jen. The bug is exactly what I have....I never
dreamt about ever riding a bike before and here I am with a
new beginning and another new desire.

For those that never road a bike before then its hard to explain
the feelings I (speaking for myself) experience deep within.

With 17 yrs sobriety...thats a many one days at a time
collected together to get me where I am today....I am
at a good serene place in my life....

Married life that i was called to do in earlier yrs...a mom
and a wife....and now all i want is simplicity in my life...

No carpools, no schedule to meet except work and play.

I want to enjoy life to the fullest now and all its rewards.
Following my HP's Will always and remaining teachable.

Yes I can imagine myself riding solo on my own bike one
day.....

Sweet rewards for staying sober ODAAT.

Thanks for letting me share.

Two of our best friends want to ride their own bikes someday. One is a single woman, and the other is married to the guy who used to post here as Jakspratt. For Christmas, Jakspratt and I went in on gift certificates for an MSF Basic Rider Course - one for his wife, one for the single gal, and a third for my wife. That way, they'll be taking the course with friends, which will make it all the more comfortable and enjoyable for them.

I encourage anyone thinking of riding their own bike to take the course. It's about $160 down here, motorcycles and gear are provided, and when you pass you can get the motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license without taking the road test. It also saves you bucks on insurance premiums when you do buy a bike.

One added benefit to the course and easy licensing: once you have the motorcycle endorsement on your license, you can rent bikes, and "shop" for the one that best suits your needs.

Hello once again...

Been pre-occupied with my bakery
job with Easter orders and all. If u care
to see where i work just go to Ambrosia
bakery.com

We r planning a move to a larger facility
this summer and looking forward to it.

With all that is going on in my life....
a 25 yr marriage nearing an end....work
and a new chapter in my life beginning,
my recovery comes first a formost.

Without being sober today and remaining
teachable, open and honest and of course
a faith in a HP, then I would not be here.

Practicing the principle set down before
me in my everyday affairs makes life
more enjoyable and manageable.

For all that I am truely grateful.

With a new friend in my life that too
is in recovery....we r looking forward
to riding on his new Harley Road King
Classic......A BEAUTIFUL 2 tone burgandy
red color and leather saddle bags and
lots of shiney new chrome.....

Eventually he will teach me to ride
his older Harley Classic and ill take
the course to get my license.

What total joy i have to look
forward to.....

Taking life one day at a time.....

I have a Road King Classic also. I found the stock seat to be a little hard on my rear-end after a couple of hundred miles. I changed to the Harley Sun Downer pillow seat. It cost about 300 bucks, but was well worth it. The passenger pad is more than twice the size of the stock seat. Your friend might have already changed to a different seat, but this is what I recomend..........Maybe you guys can join us in August?

Thanks toad for the suggestion on the seat....

Since im still in the newbie stage of learning
about bikes, you guys sharing your own
experiences, strengthens and hopes with
me really helps me and inspires me.

So thank you soooooo much.

My friend called yesterday to see
if his bike was ready for pick up but
it wasnt.....they are lowering it as
much as possible so it will comfortable
for us to get on and off it.

We looked at the tour seat at first
but i wasnt interested in it....I didnt
want to be perched on it However
A comfy seat we both can use is
something worth investing in.

Right now all I can picture in my
mind is all that shiney new chrome
shining in the sun traveling down
the highway......

We r just anxiously waiting word
for pick up.....until then patience
is a virtue.....another plus in our
recovery.

When I bought an ElectraGlide Classic a few years ago, I put a Corbin seat on it. Felt hard as a rock, but was extremely comfortable, even on long rides. I let the saddle go when I sold the Glide, but I'm wishing I'd kept it, now.

If you decide on a saddle, shop eBay or the swap-meet board at The Horse first. No sense paying full price if you can score a gently-used one someplace.

Sweet....

We thought the bike would be ready for pick up
today, however, due to them recieving the kit
to lower the bike was lacking parts....it wont
be ready till tomorrow.....

But hey, no swet......with the help of our
working program, applying the principles
to this situation, we were ready for whatever
happened today.....

We remained open to the possibility that
anything could happen....whether it was
ready or not, we remained stedfast to our
principles and allowed our HP guide us in
our thoughts and actions which turned
out to be complete acceptance.

So with understanding and acceptance
my friend accepted the call with calmness
and will check on his new bike tomorrow....

Of course with the delay comes a price....

New Harley shirts...lol

I'll be looking for a nice one tomorrow..

Thanks for letting me share.

Hello Sharon

Some words from the safety course I took....

More then half the class was women and the bikes they use or maybe the fact that women listen in class *LOL*
Most of the women tested better then the guys. One of our instructors was the head instructors daughter and she could out ride ever single one of us.
Take the course and get your lic. as soon as you can. Around my area, the longer you have a lic. the better the insurance rates...time in the seat doesn't matter to them, it is how long you have it.
