It works if you work it as we often hear in meetings..... We stay sober because we carry the messages of How It Works. We've been there done that most of our lives...drinking and everything else that goes along with it.... Today Im amazed to see so many newcomers wanting what we have.... then there r those that need it but dont really want it and wonder why they cant stay clean and sober. It's the willingness to go to any lengths to achieve the rewards that are offered to us and mentoned in the Big Book.... To finally be happy joyous and free from the addiction of drugs and alcohol that could and would kill us. Keep coming back. I did and it saved my life.

From the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous: If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. (1) We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. (2) We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. (3) We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. (4) No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. (5) That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. (6) We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. (7) Self-seeking will slip away. (8) Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. (9) Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. (10) We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. (11) We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. (12) Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them. | |

The promises start on page 83 of the Big Book. I love them so much that my license plate on my bike is PAGE83. Thanks for posting them DeVon for me to read again this morning. It's good to feel gratitude!! Hugs, Kym

I am so very gratefull that I am constitutionally capable of being honest, that I don't suffer any additional mental impairments that prevent me from being honest, placing me in the " cannot " category. I am also even more gratefull that I didn't fall into the " will not " category, where stubborn pride would have led me back to the bottle and extincton....I am saddened by the observation that I see way more " will nots " than " cannots " in meetings of A.A., but the " will nots " remind me of how good my life is today, how far I have come and what would become of me if I refused to continue to do the work.... I'm glad you are here Sharon, I love your posts... ![]() | |

Glad to be here guys....you are my SR family. Going thru more changes in my life.... Looking to make a house a home....one in which ive never experienced in all my 49 yrs of life.... My parents house was theirs when growing up. I only had a twin bed sharing a room with my sister. Clothes in a stand up dresser and a few hung in my brothers room. A medium class family of 6, working parents, dysfunction and childhood abuse i endured. Full of fear and anxiety. Felt little love by family except from my father. Left home at 18, independant and beginning stages of my drinking career. Apt. living, and more escape..... Married....emmediate family... garden home....not dream home. Move to Houston ....someone elses house....NEVER my home. Still searching.....returned home to Baton Rouge....home at last.... yet apt. living....not exactly home filled with love....well content and unconditional love from my pets. Now....soon to be divorced, a new friend in recovery sharing with me his own ESH on living a life filled with love and make a house a home. Im not one who enjoys constantly moving from one place to another,,,, however im hoping that this next move in my life will be my last and is filled with all the love Ive so wanted my entire life. A new chapter....a new me...a new joy....a new experience in riding a bike....and another day sober and sharing my ESH with u guys. Only my HP knows the ending of the story of my life and I place my entire will and life over to Him for strength and guidance. Thy will be done always. Thanks for letting me share.

Our book is overflowing with promises. They're what suckered me into getting sober in the first place, and I love 'em! ![]() See the top of page 63, where it says "When we sincerely took such a position...", or page 55, where it reads "With this attitude you cannot fail." Go even further forward, and on page 25 you'll find a passage that begins with the italicized words "There is a solution." Promises, promises... My original AA sponsor used to say "This is payday. These promises are what you get when you work the Steps." He was telling the truth. Promises come true! ![]()

"If we are painstaking about this phase of our developement" What Phase?? Step Nine, where we start fixing what we screwed up. When I became concerned about those I had harmed and cared enough to mend what was damaged, then God started doing for me what I could not do for myself. I was amazed before I was half way through. I experienced a new freedom and a new happiness. A happiness that wasn't about receiving, but a happiness that was about doing the next right thing.

Good Morning Bikers in Recovery, SR .... Happy TGIF.... Thank God It's Friday. Im so glad it's Friday because tomorrow morning I can sleep in. My hours at the bakery are on the early bird shift....My alarm goes off at 3 AM and work begins at 6 to 2pm Tuesday thru Friday with Saturdays off and back on Sunday from 7am to 1pm..... The bakery is closed on Mondays. Anyway...im longing for a vacation as I havent taken one on some yrs now..... It will be nice to just sleep late with no schedule to follow.... How about you? Do u take vacations from work and just chill? Do u head out somewhere's ? I love my early schedule at work because i go in and get it over with the rest of the day to chill. Of course with early rises I go to sleep quite early too. What kind of work schedule to u have? When do u fit in ur meetings? I make a Saturday afternoon meeting at 2pm and Mondays at noon. Then I tap in here with u guys to stay connected to my program. Below is a passage I found to pass on to u to give u something to think about during the day,,,,, From "From Loneliness to Solitude": "A.A. members are not emotional cripples who need someone to hold their hands every moment of the day and night to prevent their falling. We grow up with the help of God, or your Higher Power as we understand Him, and the fellowship of the group, and by applying the Twelve Steps to our lives." Enjoy ur day and thanks for letting me share. You are much appreciated in my recovery.

With faith in a HP all things are possible. Right? Hi Im Sharon and im an Alcoholic. By the grace of my HP and people like u here in SR I havent found it necessary to take a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90. For that and u I am truely grateful. Each day brings new life experiences. New life challenges to face..... Well maybe not so new...but new in the world of a recoverying alcoholic. Yep, Im a slow learner....and thats ok.... I have the rest of my natural born life of learning new an better ways to live my life in a more happier joyous way. Anyway.... At the end of this week....Friday as a matter of fact, my buddy and I will be getting our first tattoos. Are we excited...you betcha....anticipation awaits us... Along with that excitement to look forward to we are planning to take the bike course at the end of May or sometime in June....YES...! Im also still in the negotiation stages of my divorce....hmmmmm....wouldnt it be cool if the divorce come thru ...no problems....all at the same time I finish the course, have the tattoo.... MAN do i have alot to look forward to.... Hey,,,,,but all in my HP's Hand. With Him all things are possible,,,,,right? Ok, before i head off to work...I have a question about biker glasses.... What do the older generation of folks wear to see while they r riding? I have contacts for distance only.... I wear my regular bi-focols everyday to work.... However id like to get some wrap arounds in perscription glasses if possible,,,,,or some type of stylish glasses to see when im riding..... When i go take the riding course I will need my glasses to see in class.....but i wont have time to change to my contacts to ride with them on the course and my regular glasses wont be good for that...... So what do u suggest? I love wearing my wrap around sunglasses along with my helment....which has no shield....but then ive never worn one with a shield.....dont know if i want to be closed in behind a shield..... Your thoughts would be so much appreciated.....

Class is in the morning and riding in the afternoon or reversed. Contacts with sunglasses (non-scripted) if sunglasses are needed and just your contacts if no sunglasses is how I would go. The riding classes, you don't go over 20 MPH and they are held in a closed parking lot about the size of a football field or half a field. Classroom... part of class was watching movies, part was answering questions in the book. Notes if you want to take them but not required. Good thing about glasses...They keep bugs, wind, and sun out of your eyes. Bad thing about glasses... they can fog up and don't have windshield wipers on them if it rains. Also if you ride through a tunnel...going from sunny to darker space... you may not see for a brief moment until your eyes adjust or you look over the edge of the glasses if sunglasses.

For me, it's a full face helmet with a shield. Of course my helmet is a flip helmet, so I can raise it for convenience in taking it off and putting it on. I think it's all such a personal choice, ya know? I wear sunglasses when needed, but the shield keeps the weather and bugs off my face. Just my two cents!

I wear clip-on's on my glasses. If the sun is not real bright I don't wear sunglasses, I need to see everything. The most important glasses I have are the "New Pair of Glasses" that AA gave me. If I don't put them on everyday I miss out on the real ride.....sober living.

I'll ride with no helmet, but not without glasses. First time you run up behind a gravel truck, you'll be glad you were wearing them.....
