Man's Inhumanity to Man

We know it happens every day, people shoot each other down in cold blood. Countries war with one another and unspeakable atrocities go down as if they were normal (all you vets with wartime service can relate with me on that one). But damn it, some things drive me over the edge.
It breaks me grizzled old heart when someone hurts a kid. YA see that all over the TV too. But jeezly crow, when it happens in yer face, I just come apart. I was gettin ready for work and had left the house to rev up the cage when I heard the screams of a little girl. I took off as fast as my crippled frame could carry me only to find the next door neighbors 5 year old little girl shivering in the cold (5 degrees F), her tiny hands were bright red. Her older brother stood there with her, he had no coat either, holding her, trying to keep her warm and comfort her the best he could. The older brother told me his parents were in bed and didn't want to go out into the cold to drive them to the bus stop and keep warm in the car.
I kept my cool in front of the kids. I gave the little girl my coat and my gloves and went back to the house and gotta coat and gloves for the older brother. He started to cry to, I did my best to comfort him. I turned the parents in to CPS on the way to work.
I hung up the phone with them, and the dam broke, my dear God I don't think I have wept like that in years, least ways not since Lebanon.

You did the good and right thing. Those children will remember the kindness you showed them today. Gods Speed to you.

I'm proud of you Jimmy. You handled that like the walking example of the Big Book that you really are. Those kids won't ever forget either....

God bless ya Jimmy, you're a shining example of God's will for us in sobriety. I've always prided myself on being a good parent, but I'm grateful that He gave my kids a little added protection until I sobered up.

The sad truth is that anybody can have kids regardless of whether they make good parents or not. My wife is a nurse and I have to hear some terribly sad stories. Good for you for standing up for those kids.

Naw, I am aware of that Rar, I go through these changes every now and again where I feel like pullin out all my defects of character, especially rage and arrogance. That way I can justify it when all 250 crippled pound of me goes dinky dow and stomps a mud hole in the chest of dirtbags that abuse babies. Then reality kicks in and I pray for the people even if it is threw clinched teeth. This guy told my wife he was tryin to get his wife pregnant again so he could get another 480$ a month ADC. He's got 6 children crammed into a 990 Sq ft house now. It aint my business until I hear a 5 year old screamin in pain because her hand hurt from the sub-zero wind chill. Then a crime is in progress and I can't let it go.

Yes with humans like you...I will be glad to say I am human.

Not so sure I would have handled things as well as you.
My thought would have been to bypass CPS and teach them a lesson myself.

You did it the right way.

My HP deserves all these accolades and praise, ten years ago come Feb 14th, I would have called 911 myself. First to get those precious little kids outta the hands of those monsters. Secondly to call the monsters an ambulance to clean up what I done to em and last to get a cop to haul my 1% in arse off to the stony lonesome.

To God be the glory, great things HE has done.

Reponse to Hammer's Humanity post.

I did type this out as a reply, but then changed it to post, because I wanted to make sure you ALL see it. This is my reply to Hammer's Humanity post:

You did the right thing man. I work with this kind of parenting everyday. Yeah, you probably guess it with the last sentence I work in a program rehabiltating juvenile deliquients/juvenile drug addicts. Every day I personally want throttle someone's set of parents for this same exact behavior. Then yesterday one of my bosses told me I care too much!!! How can you care about these type of kids too much?? Can any of you of my older pals explain that to me? No dig with the age comment, but I am pretty young yet and just wondered if you guys can tell me am I wrong for caring? I do my job and have the respect of all of my kids. I work with people everyday that these kids hit and think nothing of it, in 3 and a half years I have never had one kid come at me. I get told remarks like " I respect you because you talk to me NOT AT ME" or "I know you are not here for the paycheck" I have kids that go out and ruin their sobriety and come to ME not their caseworkers and say" man I screwed up this weekend I used can you help me start over" All my job is really glorified babysitter I provide transportation and cook for them. But these kids see me in my Harley shirt and for some reason attach themselves to me and say before they hear my story "I just know you have been their too." To tell you guys the god's honest truth it upset me so bad that I wanted to use, but I didn't I'm better than that now. My only addiction now is to dark chocolate and I don't think god is going to think any thing less of me for that one indulgence. Alot of it is because I can come here and rant to you guys and I know we help each other keep each other sober. I know I have only been here a small time but bless you guys for taking in a younger biker and helping keep them sober. I hope you all realize how much what you say guides me and helps me guide them!!!! So not only do I want to thank each one of you for helping me, but also for helping me help them.
