jail meeting

went and did the weekly H&I jail mtg last night. Just want to say what a fantastic part of my recovery this has been. The last couple months have been some of the best we have had up there. But last night one of the inmates took time out to thank us for showing up wk after week to carry the message, Man I was so humbled and thankful. They dont understand what a privilege it is for me to be of service, to give back what was given to me so freely. I was a little worried a couple weeks ago, cuz I got a little teary eyed speaking about my gratitude for the life N.A. has made possible for me. But since that mtg they have all opened up and are sharing more freely. Guess if the ol biker can show emotion made it easier for them to do the same, So anyone that has a chance to take mtgs behind the walls, I strongly recommend it. My recovery and life has been greatly blessed by doing so. Peace to ya all

I understand you perfectly clear.......after seven years of sobriety my sponsor wanted to start going into the prison down the road and asked me to think about it. At the time my sponsor had 46 years sober and was 75 years old. I said I would do it. It has turned out to be the most rewarding service work that I have done. Ozark Correctional Center is a year long treatment program. It is a minimum security prison with about 700 inmates. Many of the inmates are at the tail end of their sentence, 7-10 years etc... We help facilitate the meetings twice a week. These guys are really working a program. I have kept contact with several that are doing very well on the outside with the help of AA and NA. It is a very humbling thing to go in weekly. I myself was sentenced to 4 yrs and did not have a drivers license for 14 years, so when I walk out that gate, hop on my scoot and head home, my gratitude for my recovery is forefront in my mind.......... I am a big book thumper, but some of these guys have studied the AA and NA text books for years, and are able to quote page and paragraph from memory...........going in is truly a humbling experience, keeps my feet on the ground and praises going out to God....

Thanks for sharing...........toad

I did the jail meetings for the women for over a year in my area. What an amazing time that was for me. You should see the cool "jail jewelry" I have. They are made from threads from whatever they can get their hands on. I still help with the "system" in locating rehabs for those coming out of jail that really want it. I love giving back!

Thanks for sharing sticker and reminding me of the feeling I used to get when the girls would come up and hug me and thank me for taking the time to come in and talk to them...I needed that today!!

Hugs,
Kym

I met and hired up my sponsor (if ya wanna call it that) in the joint. I had to go out and try the water several more times before it stuck, but it stuck when it was supposed to. Lotta good program in the jailhouse.
