How do you get from the middle of nowhere to a bar or the BBQs? You could get to meetings the same way. How do I do it? One day at a time because I want to do it. When you want it, you will find a way. Still drinking and not having a bike is a good thing in my opinion. Not drinking and having a bike.... Life doesn't seem to get much better it feels at times.

I had seven DWI's, and didn't have a drivers license for 14 years. I also live in a rural community (2 1/2 miles from town). For the past 8 1/2 years I rode a bicycle. Clocked over 40,000 miles of my mountain bikes in that period of time. I rode to meetings day and night (had very good lighting system), and in all seasons of the year. During that period of time I never lacked for anything, I never even ran out of toliet paper. Now that I am driving I seem to run out of things, but I am able to go get them. I go to church, but when the snow was deep, it was the AA people who called to see if I need anything from the store. My last suspension was for 10 years, and without AA and by the grace of God, I could have never made it. I surely would have been in prison still. I got my drivers license in Jan. and a week later I was able to score a 2007 HD Road King Classic.........the promises of AA do come true, some quickly some slowly.......... a mid-fifty year old man riding a bicycle for 8 1/2 years in a small community was humbling.........but you know something? "God will exalt the humble, and humble the exalted."........the choice is yours. Find a meeting and go, get a sponsor and work the steps. then reach out and help someone else and watch God work miracle after miracle in your life. You'll either get sobered-up, locked-up, or covered-up.......you make the decision. |

[QUOTE=Khrobin;1377588] How did you people do it? QUOTE] Rarely have we seen a person fail, who has thoroughly followed our path. If you want what we have and are willing to go to any lengths to get it, then you are ready to take certain steps.... Are you ready to go to any lengths? If so, join us with all the energy you used to spend on drinking and drugging. Pick up the phone and call AA. Go to lots of meetings. You will find many AA members willing to help you. Join a group, get a sponsor and do what he tells you. Your life will improve considerably, that's a guarantee. Give us a real chance for 90 days. If you don't want what we have after that, we will gladly refund you your misery.... I was scared at the start also, but I stuck it out. Now I wouldn't trade my life for anything. I love being free to be myself and go wherever I want, when I want. I was imprisoned by drugs and alchohol in my previous life and I much prefer being happy, joyous and free......

Rar-My first shot at gettin this thing; my sponsor-a man we affectionately know as "Icepick" said the same thing (how bad do ya want what I've got?). Ice is a directive sponsor. I mowed his lawn, shined his shoes and more, all in the name of willingness. Just flat wantin this program, wantin sobriety above all else. With life goin to hell in a handbasket, if ya got nothing more than your sobriety; you've got the "Keys to the Kingdom!"

You say you're "tired of it," and feel like you're "missing out on everything." If that's so, your choice is simple. You can have what you have - DUIs, blackouts, dreams put on hold - or you can have what we have - freedom, serenity, solid fellowship, a social life that doesn't hurt..... The list is endless, man, and we're more than willing to share. Again, if you want what we have, you do what we do. What have you got to lose?
