| options Quote: ![]() I have to disagree with this "no option" pattern. I was released from prison in 2000 with a 6 month tail. I turned myself in after 3 to squash my number. Upon final release, I found my self unemployable, then homeless, living in a broken down Astro Van and in a unhealthy relationship with nowhere to go but either up or back to prison. Since my license was suspended, this has been the only law I have broken since my release, (driving on suspended). And I got a bunch of them, too!! ![]() Staying clean as a first priority, up was the only direction. Construction was my option. At first, I walked around a small business area with a hammer and nail pouch, offering to fix things. The cost to them was time and materials. They buy the materials and when done, pay for my time. Well, long stary short, I now have a class-A CDL and a very good reputation in the electricians field in AZ, and am building a new one in the trucking industry here on the East Coast. Everything except the house is paid for with taxed monies and I have maybe two debitors left on my credit report. What I am saying is, if a drunkin dope fiend can do this, anybody can! That is what life is,... "options". I choose to go up, the tools for that direction were already there, laid out before mankind to simply follow. What we must do is realize that there are always options and staying clean is one of them. As we all know this is my opinion only and not the opinion of all in the world, even if I think it should be. Last edited by Jazzed_N_MD; 04-08-2007 at 09:45 AM. Reason: needs more definition | |

Jazzed said the whole thing. We are all given the gift of free will at birth. Our lives are full of options. The only ones who do not recover, are those who can not or will not completely surrender to the path. A path that was laid out long before we got here. From my experience in A.A., there seems to be way more " willnots" than " cannots". The stubborn refusal to surrender leads many willnots through the gates of insanity and death and the male bulls**t, testosterone-fuelled macho ego leads the parade.... I know of what I speak. I came from the same neighbourhood. When I arrived at the " jumping off place ", I had 4 options. Jail, insanity, death, or surrender to something I did not understand. I chose surrender. That is why I am here with you today, clean and sober. That is why I was at the hospital this morning, holding my grandaughter in my arms, 5 minutes after she was born and her father (my son) is sitting in a jail cell. I surrendered and he hasn't (yet). Surrender is the only option, in my humble opinion.....

You said a mouthfull of AA stuff that I need to hear everyday. I used to get tired of everything. Booze, dope, relationships, everything, but when someone shares their experience, strength and hope, and it comes from a grateful honest heart in recovery, it never seems to get old........that's becaues they are living words of life........the choice is ours, today I coose to listen.........thanks for sharing Rarely | |
