Founders Day in Akron

Hey all:

Has anyone been to Founder's Day in Akron? If so, can you give me ideas as to what it was like? I'd like to go, but not sure if I can handle huge crowds!

Thanks,
Kym

I've never been but know several who have been. Some go regularly. I have heard that it is a good event. I would like to go and since you have sowed the seeds I will think about it.....from southern Missouri to Akron would be a nice run........toad

Kym,

I don't like crowds, either. That's why I was never a regular at Sturgis, and why I avoid Austin's own ROT Rally like the plague. However, when the crowd is sober, that puts a slightly different spin on things.

It is my hope (fantasy at this point, but we'll see) to do a "Comeback Tour" this spring, including Founders' Day in Akron, the MMAAC in Pearl City, IL, and maybe even the SBU Nat'l, which (I've been told) will be in upstate New York this year.

If I could swing by Sturgis, 25 years after my first and only previous Sturgis run, that would be icing on the cake. Might make a nice magazine article, too!

Won't know, until we're much closer to the day, whether I'll get to live out any or all of my fantasy. If I do, it'd be a pleasure to meet up with you and other board members at one or more of those events.

Simply awesome...a reverent yet celebratory event. You can move around rather easy. Go and sit if the crowd bothers you. You will be fine

It's June 8, 9 and 10. You can go to Akron's AA site ( http://www.akronaa.org/foundersday/) and keep up with the schedule there!

Keep on keepin' on!

Bill:

I'd love to meet ya someday!! My goals are also MMAC in Pearl City and Founder's Day. My bud and I may try Founder's Day this year and MMAC next year. They are about the same time each year and it would be too much to try and do both!

You are right about being around a bunch of sober people as opposed to a bunch of "normies". I may not get as stressed. I don't want that "fear" to inhibit my experiencing something great, ya know?

I hope you get to do the Sturgis thing again...that would make a great article!

Thanks to ya'll for the input!!

Keep on keepin' on (the road to happy destiny)!!
Kym

The year before last I got to go to the ROT Rally there in Austin. I went with other sober members of the program and we just went to look at the bikes up and down the streets. The crowds were there, but it really didn't bother me as it usually does (maybe it was the company I kept). However, I did buy a T-Shirt saying "Keep Austin Weird" as a keepsake...I don't think they need too much help in that department. It was a nice trip and I look forward to it again if I'm invited.

Holler if you're headed this way. We'll put on a fresh pot o' coffee!

I lived in Temple from '87 to '99. I went to meetings in Waco, and ran with a lot of the sober bikers from that area. We did the runs at Jim's in Axtell, and put together day rides through the northern Hill Country. I may even know some of the folks you ride with.
