| OT: Hey, Jazz (or any Arizona riders)
Trying to find a shop near Prescott, Arizona, where my brother can have his Virago worked on without getting that "just raped" feeling. Can you recommend anyone? Thanks,

Wish I could help but I don't know of any shops in the Prescott area. Even the guys I use here, they're sloppy but my ride is still under warranty so it's not costing me anything so far. The only thing I can recommend is doing a Google search for shops in the Dewey-Mayer area. I seem to remember seeing some small shops the last time I drove through that area. Or give these folks a call and see what their service rates are like Outdoor Sports - Home

Someone turned me on to a guy in Mesa (Medusa Cycles Home) who's supposed to be stand-up, but Mesa's a bit of a haul from Prescott, and my brother doesn't have a truck for hauling. Hoping to find something closer. Thanks for the tips. I'll check 'em out.

Thanks, Jazz. Made the trip, and found a couple places that might work for him. Unfortunately, it's a moot point for the next year or so, because... First, he laid down the Beemer I loaned him, on Highway 89 south of Prescott. Missed a downshift in a turn, and grabbed too much front brake. Went log-rolling down the road in front of me (an ugly picture that still plays in my head at night!) with the bike sliding and shooting off sparks beside him. Broke his left scapula, three ribs, and his right thumb, and earned a bunch o' road rash. Those injuries will keep him off bikes for a while. EMTs working on him. See the drop-off behind them? If he'd hit that guardrail, he'd have gone down that bluff, and been in 'way worse shape! Me and my brother, a couple days post-wreck. He's had surgery on the thumb since then, to pin the bones back together. Hence, both arms are immobilized for at least six weeks. Thankfully, his girlfriend was able to come out from NC to stay with him, or I'd still be in AZ! The Princess - broken windshield, broken footpeg/shift lever mount, broken turn signals, and scraped-up taco box, engine guard, clutch lever, and bar-end weight. Pretty light damage, considering how far it slid on its side! Once he heals up, he's taking a year-long sabbatical from his teaching position at Prescott University, which will involve long periods of time kayaking the Alaskan outback, and other solitary wilderness pursuits. Maybe, once all that's out of the way, he'll be ready to ride again. He did say he had fun, up until that last moment, and that he wanted to do it again someday!

| Whoa! Awfully glad to hear he's OK Bill, that's a tough break. I'll consider myself forewarned. I'm taking a ride up to northern AZ this coming weekend with my GF. Better take it slow and easy on the curves!

| Definately glad you were with your brother. Even more, I am glad it was just injuries and not worse. I know Rt 89 very well and about AZ drop-offs. Almost lost a prospect on the way to Payson one summer. Spent some hospital time, could've been worse. All-n-all, this is our life and we live it, greatfully. Right? Speedy recovery to your brother, Bill. BTW, Anne Holte is now in Alaska and there is a fellow asking about SRMC that is up there. :atv

Thanks, all. I'll pass along your kind words and best wishes. As for The Princess: she leaves tomorrow. After my accident, she was the most comfortable ride in my stable, until I scored that FXR. Even then, she was a joy to ride until I had that get-off back in May. I landed hard on my already-messed-up back, and since then every ride on The Princess has been torture - shooting pain down both legs that lasts for hours after the ride. Hence, I was already thinking of selling her. In fact, if my brother had fallen in love with her, instead of falling off her, I'd have made him a heck of a deal! However, a friend of mine here in Austin (the guy whose bike shop I worked in for many years) has been wanting a Beemer for a while now, so I made him a heck of a deal, instead. I took a hit on resale, because of the damage, but I can live with that. He had his welder fix the shifter/peg mount this afternoon, and I reinstalled it when I got home. I'm going to ride her down to the shop tomorrow, and kiss her goodbye. The Princess was a great bike, and a true beauty, and I'm going to miss her, but my friend's going to appreciate having her, and I feel good about her going to a good home. And now I can get to work on stripping and customizing that bagger!

| You're almost old enough to enjoy a nice geezer gilde..........Keep the hard bags, put back the lighted bag guards, put all the bells and whistles back on, get a chrome cup holder and cruse..............listening to soft rock or eazy jazz of course.

TOAD! Easy on that geezer glide crap!!! I rode one of those for years and I was still a young strapping lad! Now I'm an old coot and I'm back to a softtail... Go figure. My OL says I'm going through my "mid-life" crisis. And maybe I have some more step work to do..
