| Bipolar and Chocolate?
Mark, I had a major depression relapse yesteday, the worst since my suicide attempt a month or so ago. When I began to feel a little better, I still feel pretty awful, but I am keeping my mood chart up to date, I noticed that before the last crash I had eaten chocolate, a good bit - maybe 5 or 6 little candy bars about an oz each. Sat night I had another craving and ate 4 or 5 brownies. I have a problem with bulimia, and I threw most of them up, but still the huge crash the next day. Is there a link between chocolate and bipolar II for some people? I know we are supposed to limit caffeine and sugar, and chocolate has both? AniUnix |

If bipolar people do better limiting caffeine and sugar chocolate is bound to be bad for you as it contains, as you said, caffeine and sugar. I'd try to keep snacks that are not chocolate & contain natural or artificial sweeteners rather than sugar and see how that effects you; if it avoids relapse, stick with it.
