Help! I think my boyfriend is using again... Are there any long term side effects to Oxycontin abuse? How long do the withdrawls typically last? How long does methodone treatment usually last? Is it typically successful? He hasn't confirmed his use. Are there any signs that he is still using? If so, what? ***ANY*** help is appreciated!! |

dear blueskies - check out this site about oxycontin abuse, side effects, addiction & withdrawal: http://www.oxycontin-abuse-news.com/ As you probably know, if your boyfriend is addicted to oxycontin (or anything else), there's nothing you can do to 'make him' kick the habit if he doesn't want to already. So most of your questions, alas, are unanswerable - or at least, unfortunately, not to the point. What IS to the point is your own wellbeing. I'd strongly suggest you go to NarAnon meetings which will help you gain some perspective and clarity and guidance and support re: what you're going through. (Check out the Naranon thread on this site, and post there too.) Even if he isn't using now, you're still suffering the effects of his addiction and/or addiction-related behavior - and Naranon could help you so much. I hope you'll find and go to some meetings soon. best, Guy |

first of all physical withdrawals last about five days with the first 3 the worst. However after that depression and inability to sleep may be a problem. withdrawals consist of severe joint pain. diaherea, mild to severe temp with hot and cold periods. Severe withdrawals can occur with heavy use 500mg a day or more. Methadone is just as addictive as oxys but it does however help in withdrawals if you decrease dose weekly until you are weened off it but i would recomend cold turkey as methedone is just a replacement. However it will not do any good if your boyfriend is not ready to admit he is an addict and ready to go to any length to stop using. N.A. is the solution to his addiction. If he continues to use he can expect jails, institutions and possibly even death. I was an addict for 32 years until i found recovery in N.A. The program of N.A. did for me what iI could not do for myself. Today I live a life of recovery and do what the program tells me to do and my life is better that you could believe because I am happy and don"t have to live in fear, lonelines and isolation. I have real friends in and out of recovery and don"t use for one day at a time which has turned into alot of clean time. Get to a nacanon meeting if you are not an addict and talk to other people who are experiencing the same thing you are. Sometimes it is nessary to practice tough Love in order to get someone to seek recovery and even this does not always work. For an addict we live to use drugs and use drugs to mask our fears, insecurities, self pity and inability to live up to expectations. Addicts can do for each other what we could not do for ourselves and that is to stop using and live a life without alcohol and drugs |
