Going to first NA meeting for me

I've been to NA meetings before with my husband for his cocaine addiction. But tonight I am going for me and my addiction to percocet. My husband and I are going together. He has never worked a program, just went to a few sporadic meetings here and there over the years. Was abstaining from coke for almost 10 mos and just recently started up again. I am hoping this meeting helps us both have the desire to get clean.

Any encouragement or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathy

So glad you're here, Kathy! And good for you for getting to an NA meeting tonight. I'm excited for you. I absolutely LOVE NA! How nice you and your husband can support each other through this, and encourage one another to keep going one day at a time. Are there any women's meetings in your area you can go to, also? It might be nice to have a little "you time" once in a while.

Please let us know how it goes tonight, k? Have fun!

Very good step. Id say the first one was the scariest for me. I thought everyone would be talking, looking, pointing, but that was not true. You have attended before so you know that isnt true either. Anyway have a good time, Congratulations on that step!

Awesome! Way to go! Fantastic!
I was at home in my first NA meeting I went to... Finally people who understood me, didn't look down on me, and who had been through what I'd been through...and who had come out on the other side...
Here they were...clean & sober...laughing & smiling... happy faces..
I hope your meeting is as great as my first one was!
{hugs}

I am happy you are both willing to give NA a try. I have been a member now for five years and I still go at least once a week.

I am as excited about my meetings now as when I first started going.

I wish you both a long and happy life clean.

I hope this works for you and for your husband. You need to go for yourself, not him, and vice versa. No one can get another person clean. Each person has to make his/her own choices.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. The meeting went really well. I accepted the white key chain and feel I've really made a commitment to recover. I will keep you all posted on my progress. I grabbed a bunch of literature and plan to read it over and over today and just fill my mind and thoughts with it.

great Kathy!
My husband and I had planned to go to an NA meeting last night for his cocaine addiction. Unfortunately, it came out he used on Sunday (he's quit on his own about 10 times over the past year - and keeps relapsing. It's so hard for him). I learned this on Monday. He started a new job Monday (same trade he does, different shop and all clean people he's worked with in the past - a good start) and has came home and just slept. He hasn't felt well, plus has some issues with his nose. I have no problem with him resting, but I really feel the meetings will help. Well, he came home to just rest until 7:30 and he looked bad. We're going to try again tonight. He wants me to go with him to the first one for support - plus he's scared I think.

Your post makes me feel better about going. I've never used drugs so all of this is so new to me.

Congrats on 1 day clean! Here's to many more for you!

Thumbs up Wish you the best

I wish you the best, meetings are a great place to meet very supportive people that have been where you are before. It's not easy but it'll be worth it....Best of Luck!!
