Problem of th eday

I have developed a bad migraine today and I am going to my dr. for a shot. I know we're allowed to have medication when necessary, so I don't think this would count as falling off the wagon.

My head might explode if I don't get the shot. My eyes hurt. And I've already tried OTC meds.

Let me know this is ok. I can't get ahold of my sponsor and I'm just about to leave work.

Yeah, I don't know. I had a migraine last summer and I couldn't tell you what they gave me, but it knocked me out. I have to drive there and home though, so they can't give me anything too strong.

Sorry you're feeling down.

I think you're much better off going to the Dr. for a shot instead of taking a bottle of pills home. I don't know about migraine cures, but this way sounds more controlled. I think most sponsers would say that you are allowed medicine but I think the normal advice is stay away from whatever your DOC was if you can, and take only what you need, then throw the rest away (in the case of pills).

Hope you get feeling better soon, close the curtains, crank the A/C and hide under the covers.

Andy,
Hey, funny thing is...I went to doc today too, major migraines for past week.
I have over 60 days clean from pain pills, he said it's due to chemical changes & imbalances. he would not give me pain meds (i don't want them anyway) he did however up my dose of zoloft and give me .25mg of zanax. he said migraines are prolly from stress, tense shoulders and the like.

I've been home a few hours took meds as directed & guess what? migrane is gone!

Honey: do not get the shot, you know it's only bad, he offered it to me, and it is an opiate. Do not take the shot!

your friend,
blue

It worked out fine. I got a shot of Toradol, which is non-narcotic. Hopefully the migraine will stay away now.

I had one last summer that lasted for about a week. It sucked.

Just keep it honest with your Dr and you will be fine. I am glad you are feeling better.

I get migraines, and the best help I ever got with medication was composine (sp?) - for some reason, when you get rid of the nausea that accompanies migraine, you seem to get rid of the pain.

Be honest with your doctors about being a recovering addict, be honest with yourself AND your doctor about your level of pain. And let the person with the medical degree decide which treatment is best for you.

It sounds like things worked out well for you.
