Exclamation Best Friend or Worst Enemy???

"The incredible thing about the human mind is that it didn't come
with an instruction book." -- Terry Riley

Is your mind your BEST FRIEND or your WORST ENEMY? So few people
know how they think, create, learn or intuit. When we take our
mental processes for granted, we lose our creative genius.

Our minds play the same messages over and over again. About 95% of
what we do, think and say comes from OLD PATTERNING in our
subconscious minds. So how do we break from these stuck, limiting
patterns? Journaling helps.

Journaling is a process of quickly capturing our thoughts and
feelings on paper. (You think about 60,000 thoughts per day. How
many are you aware of?) Unless we write them down, thoughts
disappear. But once we can see what we're thinking, we can LEARN TO
THINK IN DIFFERENT WAYS. We can group, synthesize, add to and change
our thoughts. We can consider them from different perspectives. And
as we work with this information on paper, we bring it back into our
minds - this is HOW WE LEARN.

Our minds work at about 1000 words per minute, but WHEN WE WRITE, WE
SLOW DOWN to about 100 words a minute. This allows thoughts to be
recorded deeply in the subconscious. It also supports more focused,
creative thinking. We are able to see and sense between the written
words. We can also see and sense the synergy and new interpretations
of many words at once. That's why journaling brings up so many
insights and fresh ideas.

As writer Natalie Goldberg says, "The positive thing about writing
is that you connect with yourself in the deepest way, and that's
heaven. You get a chance to know who you are, to know what you
think. You begin to have a relationship with your mind." Better yet,
we can discover our mind to be our best friend. And our life will
never be the same.

"The more you use your brain, the more brain you will have to use." -
- George A. Dorsey

THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

I recently wrote a poem and was surprised at the results. I don't
write very often, and it always amazes me when the words come out.
I think of a saying I heard years ago, "Use it or Lose it!"

I am what I think. I must always remember that I need food for the body, mind and spirit.

Thanks, Many times when posting to others, I'm actually posting for myself also. I've found that seeing thought patterns on paper help identify poor ones. I"m working on the part about " old pattern" thinking. In my case I learned these thoughts from others. Example, As a child having been told for years I was stupid, I believed it. I even used it as a crutch to keep from advancing. Many of the things we think, were taught. I need to decide what I feel about myself, not, adopt anothers thoughts of me. The thing that caught my eye in your post was about writing. I have a son that became a Newspaper Writer. I always thought that part of him came only from my ex-wife. Now in recovery, I've taken on reading, which I always thought to be a waste of time. It has awakened both a desire learn and an understanding that yes, my son could have got some of the smarts from me. I've been writing to newspapers. Then if the edit my letter, I learn from it. I've also discovered that I have a touch of reverseing my letters. Also my wife says when she reads my stuff and my sons articles the format is the same. This has helped me to understand why sometimes I learn better in Verbal training rather than reading. This also I'm learning to control. I simply slow down and proof read what I write. We both without knowing it, try to write like we were next to the person talking. Thanks again, your post was very helpful for me. Don W

If you see Terry Riley...
The instruction book as some call it would be the Torah.
As others call it, it would be the Bible.

Thing is most people tend to try it their way before they even start to think of looking for the instruction book.

An alcoholic/Addict is a genius
It would take a genuis to come up with ideas/talents to support our habits.lol
You go bunkers too if you hear notes or music in your head 24/7s.
Innovative ideas that comes out of nowhere all the time
An artist of sorts.
It is in my hearts that determind if it my friend or enemy.

Also the trash in, trash out
A lot of negative ideas , belives input over the years for control issues.
family, religion, military, society, peer preasure, relationships, ect
And the constant replaying those negative images (truama) . It became
a habit or a way of thinking. Instant Blackout.
Blackout I really, really had to blackout.lol
I knew something wasn't quit right and it wasn't all me.
yes I 'm an alki, but I also had to accept the i'm a product of my enviornments.
A human (mind) has an amazing ablitly to adapt or endure BS.

Brain washed, Yes I had to get brain washed
A great deal of work I took to get rid of those neagative idles or thinking.
I had to surround myself with people, read, reseach or seek help from
people that had posistive ideas or way of thinking. I was also accepted
as who I am and encourage to think freely as I choose to.
I also had to follow my instink. Some of the ideas, new for some was
yesterday's news for me.

Getting to the root of some of my emotional trama, guilt , shame had to
been done. This stop those images or slow it down or It ran across my mind
fewer and further. This allowed my mind to be free and think and grow thur reserch, instead of being frozen by those painful negative images.

I use to hate people that would tell me , just get over it
let the past be in the past. No **** sharlock...
How about telling me how to stop these non-stop thoughts without
getting wacked out of my freanken mind.

It also co-exsist wiht my spirit or sprital awakening.
My life was a living hell.
"It would be a snow ball in hell if I ever stop using or drinking" was
what I always told everybody. I took a leep of faith.
I ask god to freeze hell over. In my reverlation, God showed me
of all the tramas, shame ,guilt images or moments locked in time froozen in icey flames. I felt peace as you can imagine.

I've read more books in recovery then I've had ever read in my life.
It is however thourgh the fellowships that my journey begun.
Being able to think freely and clearer is a great gift recovery has giving me.

Thank you for sharing, my ex-mother-in-law use to say, "You write like you talk and you never had any trouble talking." Back then, I too was writing articles for two local newspapers. Thanks for the reminder, haven't thought about them for a long time, but then it was a long time ago.

Even my hand writing changed, as I watched my progress in recovery, I found it became more open, more consistant, and not so up and down.
