Getting him out of denial

I have recently learned that a close friend has a serious addiction to drugs and alcohol. He has let his life spiral out of control and is currently in jail because of it. I never knew how serious his problems were, I live in another state. He is in denial and I don't know how to help him. I know that he has to be the one to make the right choices to turn his life around but I want to be there to encourage him. How can I help him see that he can still have a wonderful life if he chooses to do so?

I believe he will have to make that decision on his own. When he is ready to admit to himself and surrender, than he can start to recover.Thats when you can support him.

You answered your own question!!!!
We as addicts see these people come and go reguarly into recovery and there is nothing we can do if they just don't want it. Maybe ask him to check out some NA meetings, that would be a start. Ask him what does he have to lose.
If you need help to find meetings, ask and we can help you do that.
