I have to admit that since I started walking, bicycling, and doing crunches a few months ago I feel much more positive and have a generally happier outlook.
I agree 100%. Outdoor aerobic exercise such as trail running and biking have been my 'go to' methods to control my stress and anxiety for 30 years. Run 5-10 miles and don't even want a drink.. haha. It's probably the main reason I didn't turn into a total alcoholic, and remained functional and successful in my career.
Of course one eventually begins to wear out the joints at that level, but it got me through to sobriety. I still bike regularly for an hour, and go to yoga. Walking in nature is also very rewarding but does not offer the same cardio benefit and resulting boost in the Gaba and other neurotransmitters.

I've spent the last few days with my brothers, one of them is here visiting from GA and we all struggle with anxiety and depression. Being around family has done all of us wonders, but I'm also looking forward to taking long walks again and eating right this week. We've been eating out a lot and I'm getting out of shape quickly!

I actually have to be careful with exercise because of my bipolar disorder. What is a normal and healthy amount of exercise for most people will trigger hypomania in me. It's happened to me many times and sometimes leads to issues with my eating disorder. I haven't found a good balance with exercise. Unfortunately daily exercise, even just a daily walk, seems to destabilize me. 3x a week is probably more realistic.
