Rediscovering joy
Last night, my darling 16-year-old cat "hid" under the table when it was time for his medicine. I write "hid" in quotation marks because he was not really hiding -- I could see his adorable white paws from any vantage point in the room.
He does this all the time, and it often brings a smile to my face. Last night, however, I saw him do this and burst out into real, honest, joyous laughter. And it felt so good. More and more, I'm seeing the humor, light and beauty in everyday things. For this, I am so very, very grateful.
I'm only in my third week of abstinence, and the signs that I'm on the right path are undeniable.
