Any help with hppd?
(Hallucinageon persisting perception disorderLosing my mind a bit... so recently late at night right before I'm going to sleep I pay down in my bed with the lights off virtually pitch black and I start to feel like I have just taken a ton of benadryl to trip. I used to abuse diphenhydramine and dxm frequently... I've been sober from all drugs for almost 7 months now except for caffeine and nicotine. I'm on these meds: doxepin, 100 - 200mg ( at night for sleep), Luvox 300mg (at night for OCD), ashwagandha 400mg morning and night for anxiety and insomnia. Suan zao ren tang (jujubee seed) tea for anxiety, sweating insomnia etc. Like I said it is basically like a benadryl trip. I start feeling heavier a bit and not complete easy function of movements, LED lights flicker and move, spider webs and movement of environment. It's really distressing. I'm an addict In recovery and meth ended up being my drug of choice but benadryl and dxm played a part in my addiction. If you could give me any advice I would appreciate it. It seems to start after I take my meds so I'm confused on if my doxepin is doing it or what? I can't even take benadryl or anything like it including Vistaril because I will begin hallucinating so I'm wondering if doxepin has similarities to diphenhydramine or something. I don't know what kind of doctor I need to see because most doctors haven't heard of hppd. Who would you recommend I go see? Thanks for reading please help!
Hi Kaehil,
We cannot give medical advice on the forum.
My general advice is:
Call the doctor who prescribed the doxepin and Luvox. Double check to be certain that you are taking the correct dose at the correct times of the day.
Make sure the prescribing psychiatrist or neurologist is aware that you have added the ashwagandha and jujubee seed tea to your daily anxiety and insomnia treatment regimen and for how long you have been taking these. Make sure s/he is aware of your caffeine and nicotine habits. Let him or her know exactly what you are experiencing and when. Ask for medical advice.
Is the holistic practitioner aware that you are already taking doxepin, Luvox, caffeine and nicotine? Make sure s/he is aware and repeat the above.
Two rules of thumb for me are that 1) there is no such thing as a totally safe medication and 2) Don't mess with my head.

Sorry Kaehil, I did not answer your question. Can you ask your current general practice doctor, holistic practitioner or therapist for a referral to a preferred specialist in your area?
You could always print out the wikipedia page to show them...

Yeah self diagno sis. It's virtually impossible to get diagnosed with something that no one even knows what it is lol. I mean I know I didn't hallucinate before I used drugs haha. And it's only at night really which is when I would have been tripping
