I Smell a Rat!

Now since I quit Effexor I've developed hot flashes!

Probably menopause!

Coincidence? :

I don't know how old you are but I've been on prempro for 7 years for flashes. They suck especially at night. I'm sorry.

Not yet. I was thinking of toughing it out till my physical in September, but this is too miserable.

Super, dizzying heat and night sweats that lasted about a half hour, splitting headache, nausea, and a weird feeling in my limbs.

Just had a little aftershock and decided to go sooner to the doctor. If there's a remedy for this, I'm all for it! This is the pits!

BTW, I'm 54.

Yeah, best to go now rather than wait, Gilmer.

Big hugs. What a pain. :/

yes, it can last for a while...I went on HRT for a year Prempro and the other one (Cenestin I think)...and the estrogen cream helped. I also stopped drinking and that helped the most....

I used to sleep with a stack of dry tee shirts and a couple of bathtowels next to the bed, waking up looking like I just ran 6 miles. it might also be contributing to the moody stuff.

When Mr. Fandy used to snore, I could have easily beat him to death with a hammer and dragged his body into the woods to just get a decent night's sleep.

regular exercise will also help keep things in check, both weights and cardio.

I've been walking. Going to whip out my 1982 LP of "Firm Believer," too. That was about 45 minutes of target exercise groups. Doesn't that crack you right up? "Firm Believer!" How cheesy! But it worked!

Could be the Effexor was suppressing the symptoms that were there all along.......now you have withdrawn the medication they are coming through?

Sorry to hear about it.......not there yet myself but I remember my mother sitting buck naked on her bed with the sweat just pouring off. I mean she looked like someone had just sprayed her with a hose! Unbelievable.

Let us know what happens.......good luck1

Wow, not really necessary. Menopause is part of life. You did come from a womb, yes?

My daughter hates the word "blog" because it sounds like something gross and unmentionable!

Sorry for the TMI--that thread title was kind of tantalizing to poor, innocent bystanders!

Hah ha ha! Avert your eyes. Just kidding. For the life of me I cannot figure out which word related to 'blog' is gross and unmentionable. I'm going to be thinking about this all day until I figure it out. I'm always the last person to figure out these inside jokes.

trach, you're soooooooo innocent, poor thing.

Gilmer, when I went through the change I worked at a place where I had control of the complicated, password-protected climate control panel

Everyone hated me. I kept things much cooler than all the 30-somethings who worked there preferred. They were putting space heaters under their desks

My boss called it my own private summer.

See? Lemonade!!

Cover your eyes, gentlemen!

My daughter thinks the sound of the word "blog" reminds her of an:

afterbirth.

Would it be the sound WARNING, GROSS SOUNDING WORD AND SCENARIO AHEAD that the afterbirth makes as it is expelled? Otherwise I am still perplexed by how 'blog' sounds like an afterbirth. The only thing that 'blog' sounds like to me is 'frog'. Another duh? day for me I suppose

Oh, but back to your OP regarding stopping Effexor and now experiencing hot flashes...this holds true for men as well I have heard. Effexor stops hot flashes in men. A little guy 101 for poor Trach

*should I have put that in the men's health section maybe? Nah.

At 54, 23 yrs sober, a recovery program
to keep my addiction at bay and fans
spread around the home, 2 next to my
bed to ward off hot flashes. I wish
they would make COLD sheets for our
side of the bed tho.

Anytime meds, drugs, alcohol, toxins,
narcotics inter our natural bodies, our
insides are all messed up. They interfere
with our insides and make everything go
haywire.

Using our physicians and being open
and honest with them letting them know
about our past medical histories and
addictions, they can help our body's
system to balance out so we can function
in a healthier manner, physically, mentally,
emotionally and spiritually.

Taking care of ourselves for us and
others around us is important in recovery
and life.

so beating your partner to death with a hammer if he snores and hiding the body is not acceptable behavior?

Now the manufacturers make "cooling gel memory foam chambers" in Tempur-pedic...because let me tell you THAT BED HOLDS HEAT LIKE THE SANDS OF THE SAHARA DESERT!!!

I turn my heat down to 60 in the winter at night and the AC sits at 68 for sleeping.
