Went for a long walk on my lunch break. I've been reading Maya Angelou books and was reflecting on what she said about forgiveness. Instead of forgiving those who had wronged her, she chose to "give for." For instance, if someone said something hurtful to her, she might buy a bouquet of flowers and give it to someone else to "give" something positive "for" the person who wronged her. An interesting way of creating balance in the world. I like it. Sometimes it is so difficult to forgive really terrible wrongs no matter how hard I try. I know forgiveness is necessary in order to truly heal and move on and away from the need to self medicate. Give for. Something to ponder.

I hope any of these slips aren't triggers for anyone. I hope if anything, they are reminders of the slippery slope we walk, and that no one is coming back on here saying it was even close to worth it. AND it speaks volumes, from me at least, that I am jumping back here to this awesome group so quickly. I know people who have gone years off the deep end after a quick slip. I am thankful that thus far, I have 36 out of the past 40 days sober.

But I have lots of work to do, I know.

Thank you.

Hey 3777, I just watched a TED talk from Brene Brown on the power of vulnerability. This is some good stuff! Thanks for the tip.

And yeah, Applekat I've been checking days off too. I'm at 25ish out of 30 I think. I'd have to look at my calendar. Those days do matter. It's certainly better than I've done in ages. But it sure is hard to string those days all in a row isn't it!

ALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Part 3...

The fools could barely hold it together as Dee talked with one of the officers and the other walked around checking the bus.
Applekat and Topspin started to worry abou their bikes.

Officer: You do realize you nearly hit our car back there.
Dee: Yes, very sorry about that, we had to swerve to miss hitting a, um, a dog........
Officer: Yes well I cant see any dogs around here, where are you headed?
Dee: We're all off together for a ccokout.....

BBQ yelled Obo from the back.
Sshhh said all the fools together.

Officer: Do you mind if take a look in the back?
Dee: Not at all.....

Up and Obo once again jumped under the seats.
The fools composed themselves as the officer boarded the back of the bus.
Izzy, Mrs Bee and Mariah were up the front, with 3777 and rockstonic sitting behind them. It was the best front the fools could muster under the circumstances.
The officer looked down the Bus and looked satisfied until he saw two sets of feet coming from under the seats.
Officer: Right you two, off the Bus now.....
Up and Obo slid out from under the seats and reluctantly, poker chips falling from their pockets.

Luc and sol watched out the side window along with the rest of the fools on CCTV cameras ST had installed, as Up and Obo explained, that they were sure a cookout and a BBQ were not the same thing and Obo's slight anxiety problem had led him to yell out BBQ. And that he was sorry and working on it.
Areyoukittenme and adnamaeel were getting edgy, the story from the boys seemed convincing but they kept shaking every time the police officer moved.
Dee got out of the bus and explained to the officers that the fools were all headed to the 'APRIL LIONHEARTED FOOLS BBQ 2014'
Who are the April Lion heated Fools, asked both officers.....
Chickchick and Freein explained before Dee could get a word out, that we are a team of recovering alcoholics and drug addicts that are now living sober and that we're having a cookout.....
BBQ yelled Obo again.
offences.

Fools: SHUT UP OBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Officer too was an alcoholic and after hearing the various stories from the Fools, from all around the world, from all different types of life, all with one thing in common, the officers both let the terrible driving from Dee go without further notice.
The Fools were asked if they wanted an escort from the Police but after looking at the state of Up and Obo decided that a peaceful, uneventful journey was required from here...

Overwhelmed and Pancea called the Fool's back on the bus.
As Dee gunned the engines, Stormi and Mariah called for a new game of poker and Sol and adnamaeel joined them.
Obo was placed at the front of the Bus and on silence.
ST moved on to Lord of the Rings 2, for the viewing and some Texas music for those who loved the lyrics.
As all the fools settled down again, Applekat, Topspin and Areyoukittenme started figuring odds for the fools "arm wrestling challenge', to be held the next day.
As the Sun began setting for the afternoon, the Bus once again headed off down that long highway, there was not a cloud in sight!
The Fools were on their way to the the hotel for the night........
Which hotel you ask?????
The Fools are living it up at the "Hotel California".........

Ohhhhh MrsBee, he is adorable & looks like he's very comfortable in his new home already Will be thinking of you tomorrow as you start your new job - I always find doing some positive affirmations going into the first few days are helpful

Thank you Obo for another "fine ride" on the bus!

Thinking of you Solilo

Kat - Glad you are here with us. I was thinking today about Freein's analogy of our relationship with alcohol being an abusive relationship....I am going to keep that in mind the next time it comes knocking on my door & it WILL come knocking.

Hi Chick Chick...so glad you are here too

Overwhelmed - that is a beautiful act of forgiveness....thank you for sharing that

Busy day at work & planning to get to the gym here in a bit, as I didn't go at all last week.....wait till it cools down this evening & go tackle some hills after workout.

Roland is so cute!

Rockstonic, applekat, chick, Mariah - let's form a band! We'll call it "The April Fools of June." Brilliant, yes?

You know, it occurred to me that since I started trying to get sober, I've been watching a lot of House to fill the time. I wonder if that's somehow sabotaging me - it's so easy to identify with the lonely addict who puts up walls in every way possible to protect himself (or herself). Even though probably most people see it as an example of who they don't want to be, I see it and think "oh, I know that feeling so well."

Maybe I should switch to watching My Little Pony or something.

Hope everyone had a great Monday!

Just read back at some posts from earlier today that I missed.

Rock - through this struggle to gain sobriety if there has been one thing that has become very clear to me it is that the source of my anxiety is the alcohol. I have no doubt that if I can maintain sobriety, the anxiety will lesson greatly. Glad you are here.

Thinking of you Overwhelmed. There are so many young Moms that could use support with their little ones, wondering if there was someplace you could volunteer your time helping with little ones?
