Some secular prayers?
Hi, Seccies)
I know this question has been asked already - I looked around.
But if you don't mind I'll ask again because I didn't find what I was looking for.
I am in some dark place now, and I think I need something to keep me balanced when depression or panic strikes hard.
I googled "Prayer to the Universe" but didn't find anything that would "speak" to me.
I am looking for a prayer that would help to feel in the now, connected to the Universe, regain peace of mind and let go of the past.
I tried to replace God with Universe in some prayers, but I just don't "feel" them. I can't just pronounce words not believing in what I am saying.
Thank you all in advance.
My best wishes to all.

I recently found an interesting site called World Prayers - Prayer Archive (prayers from all traditions). It has an extensive prayer database you can search by keyword and other search terms. It's extensive, so you will probably have to spend some time searching for what you want.
If you're not finding what you want exactly, you can always write your own prayer or rewrite an existing prayer to fit your needs. I've done both; putting the prayer into my own words makes it more meaningful and I feel I'm saying the prayer with real emotion and conviction rather than just reading words off a page.
I hope this helps.
Cheers

Thanks a lot, Feenixx!
I am also considering writing my own prayer. "Real emotion and conviction" - that's exactly what I need.
Have a great day)

Hi, I really like the 'Litany against fear' from Frank Herbert's Dune book.
LITANY AGAINST FEAR
(The book itself is worth a look in case you don't know it yet.)

Thank you, Haennie.
Interesting, Dune is on my reading list. Downloaded and waiting for its turn. Now I will move it up in my list, I think.

OK no spoilers - enjoy
Hope you feel better soon!
Hi MB -
Kelly Howell has some fantastic meditation/prayers. A few that come to mind are Universal Mind and Faith. I think a few are avail on YouTube as well as on iTunes.
Wishing you the best friend.

to be taken with a grain of salt (salt a purifier)
(Romans 1:24-25 ESV)
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
concordance
Rom. 1:25 exchanged the truth about God for a lie. Paul implies that all other religions are based on false ideas about the one true God; they are not just “different paths to one God,” as some claim.

Yes, AO - BrainSync! I love their tunes; the technology is kinda controversial but I think it works for me or at least I enjoy it a lot.

It just has not been studied widely with proper scientific methods. There are a few studies, but generally, to my knowledge (this falls into the area of cognitive neuroscience, not exactly my field) many people are skeptical about its efficacy, one reason it's too simple. Here is an abstract of a recent article, I know it's technical language but the take home of that there are big individual differences in how such a simple thing can influence our brains:
The impact of binaural beats on creativity. [Front Hum Neurosci. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI
I feel that I might be one of those people who can benefit because I just love those tunes so much, and I feel it's more than just simply the music since other similar kind of meditative music without binaural beats (that's the basis of BrainSync) does not have the same effect on me somehow. So I use this stuff a lot for meditation.
Other approach that has somewhat similar components, albeit much more complex, is neurofeedback. I heard a great talk last week how they are developing a new neurofeedback-based (but it's more complex) technology to treat anxiety, PTSD, and given on how it works someday perhaps it might also help certain people with addictions a bit. They will probably come up with a device in the near future. I'm following that up so can post on it if it becomes available.
Sorry MidnightBlue - did not mean to hijack your thread, just answering questions asked to me

I vote for Schiller's Ode to Joy set to music by Beethoven in the 4th movement of his Ninth Symphony (see text and translation halfway down the page under "Fourth movement").
Sure, there are a couple mentions of God and the Creator, but it's more of a paean to pantheism than anything else. Probably not something to recite at night before sleep, but I find it very rewarding to listen to when I feel as you described in your OP.
Full version with the London Philharmonic.
And, just for fun, the abridged, Spanish flash mob version.

Hi, all.
Thank you again for responses.
I've started to write my own prayer yesterday. It was so interesting - first lines just materialized from nowhere...
Haennie - No way you are hijacking the thread! And thank you for answering the question - I am interested myself. I got Litany again Fear on my cell and read it when I fell anxious. It happened couple of times today.
Alpha - Thank you! I will look into it.
Have a good day, all)
