Dead dog bad beast

Dog died today. Right in front of everybody. Little kids crushed.

The beast goes, hey, dog died, you should drink!
What a low son of a bitch, taking advantage of a dog dying?
**** you beast.

I'm sad, but the beast is despicable. Back into the corner beast!

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, it must have been horrible.
What an amazing example for your kids when you think that previously they would have seen you coping with the situation by drinking.

I did have really one particularly amazing moment with one of the kids. I am grateful that I was clear headed through all this.
I also have a puppy that is goofy and full of life, so that gives all of us a positive place to redirect our energy.
Losing dogs always sucks, though, even if they are old, like he was, it came out of the blue.
No doubt in the past I would be hammered right now. I have no taste for it, however.
Thanks for all the kind words.

I'm very sorry that you lost your beloved pet....but so glad to hear that you didn't drink over it....a few years ago, i woke up to my favorite Maine Coon had died during the night on my bed (maine coons are prone to cardiac issues, he simply had a heart attack in his sleep)....i had to go to work that morning, but hit the wine the minute i came home

Sorry to hear about your dog's death. I'm glad you were able to see the beast for what it is, though...and be there for your kids.

DB...yeah isn't the beast an opportunistic bast*rd? So nice to see it for what it is and just shake your head at it like, "really? you're gonna use that? wow..."

I lost my dog after 14 years. It was a horrible horrible time. Worse than my divorce and I'm not even kidding you right now. So sorry for your loss. BUT so so happy that you met life head on...that you handled the toughest of situations with dignity and grace. There is no more powerful lesson for your children than that! Be very proud. You are that man, that father, that can handle the good, the bad, and the ugly in life without hiding. Bring it.

Man, I don't know why, but this is really getting to me more than I thought.
The dog was old. Capital o l d.
But it's just weird. Left the house in the morning, came back, he's gone. Everybody freaking out.
At least my wife was there for him.
It's a not subtle reminder to me to appreciate everyone and every thing, cause it can go away really quick.
This might be the first real loss I've dealt with sober, come to think of it.
Buried a lot of people recently, and this is still tough.

Even the puppy is looking around for him. She found his collar. So sad.
