AV is circling

All,

Many of us here in the US have the big Thanksgiving holiday coming on Thursday. For me this was a time for drinking and socializing. We have cut down the number of people we will have over and only those that really don't pressure me to drink. Over the past couple of days my AV has been very present. Even trying to plan out a purchase and subsequent need to hide it. I used the AVRT techniques to overcome the AV. (Vertigo)

Turbulent times are ahead for me (perhaps others). Buckle up.

Be safe and sober.

I don't think it has to be that way. Use AVRT techniques. What specifically is your AV saying?

Yes, I think it's fair and accurate to expect increased beast activity surrounding holidays if they have historically been big drinking events.
Anyone who has ever had a toddler knows what its like to be barraged by begging and tantruming. Good god you want to give in to the demands just to get a moments peace. But really who is in charge here? You follow what I'm saying? Anyone who has stuck to their guns with a toddler also knows that tantruming/begging is reduced if not reinforced, if ignored. There may be a burst at first, but it does end and it does lessen with lack of reinforcement. Thats behavior modification 101. The beast is like a child and should be treated as such. It is not wise enough to be in charge. End of discussion.
Not always easy, especially in the beginning, but with practice it's only as "turbulent" as you allow it to be.

If you reinforce AV activity by supplying "it" more than a firm, "no!", it might not let up especially during such a previously normal drinking time. It is time to make a new normal. How do you want Thanksgiving to be? Focus on those thoughts and shut your AV down with a firm, "no", anytime it suggests any different.

Good Luck!
