detoxes pills but still smokes weed?!?!

Personally I don't really have a problem with people smoking pot, but I don't know if it's a good choice for an addict newly clean. Just looking for some opinions...thanks!

Me personally - I don't think any drug use is good for "a newly clean addict" or "an old clean addict"

If they are smoking pot then they are not clean. They are in the middle of addiction.

If they're an addict, Aeo is absolutely right.

The overwhelming collective experience of addicts around the world, including my own life, is that total abstinence from all mind-altering, mood-changing chemicals is necessary as the foundation to be able to recover from drug addiction.

It's pretty hard to say you're recovering from drug addiction while you're still using drugs.

Experience also shows that, for whatever reason, addicts can recover from addiction while smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. Not so for marijuana - in fact, just like with any other drug or substitute behavior, we find that it keeps us sick and often leads to a progressive return to the original problems.

I hope your friend will choose to work a program of recovery. I'd be lost or dead without mine. But the great news is that it works - it really does.

Best wishes to both of you on your journey.

I've already removed one post.
The rules of this website are actually pretty black and white.

Please think about this rule before you post.

2. Outside Agendas: No posts of an overtly political or religious nature OR posts promoting advocacy of particular personal, medical, legal, religious, political, or non-profit causes. The forums are intended for offering mutual personal support related to recovery from addiction or recovery for family and friends. This is our primary purpose. Debating controversial subjects should be taken elsewhere. Limited references are allowed, but the forums should not be used to convert others. Do not post content or links or materials to and from sites that flame someone's person, religious beliefs, race, national background, sexual orientation, or recovery program/method. It is inappropriate to promote the use of alcohol or drugs on our addiction recovery forums.

Ettajeen - smoking pot bought me to my knees a long time before drinking ever did.

I look back now and I see it was the same behaviours, different drug - I was looking to escape my reality.

The real issue here tho is do *you* have a problem with it - do you think it's harming your relationship?

Only you can answer that.

D

I have been in rehab with people who were addicted to marijuana.

I am not sober if I smoke it. Have you considered Nar Anon or Al Anon?

I wish you well,

More posts and those that quoted them have been removed.
SR does not promote the use of marijuana.
