Sodium Valproate (Depakote)

I was recently prescribed Depakote by my psychiatrist, for Borderline Personality Disorder, and started taking it about 4 days ago. It started working quite quickly and I got relief from some of the thoughts and impulses that characterise my diagnosis.

Today though, I woke up feeling really nauseated and threw up about 4 times. I've also been sleeping for large chunks of the day for the past couple of days.

A doctor told me to discontinue it until I speak to my psychiatrist and I'm disappointed as it's the first time a medication has helped.

Does anyone have experience with Depakote, the above symptoms and getting through them?

Thannks

I also think you should talk to your psychiatrist who prescribed the drug. Is there anyway that you can put a call into him?

Spoke to my local psychiatric unit and then to my doctor. He advised me to take the medication with food and that seems to be working so far.
