Question about SNRIs & SSRIs

The doc started me on Pristiq on Monday, I feel like it's at least taken the edge off my anxiety and depression so far in the first 4 days.

I know they say it takes 4-6 weeks to get the full benefit but realistically I would imagine people would feel it some before that.

Can anybody tell me how long it took for them to start to feel their antidepressant work?

Ive been on many and notice effects about a month in. This time it's celexa, I'm 3 weeks in and starting to feel a lift.

Ive never had a reaction sooner than 3 weeks.

But they are pretty effective for you in treating your symptoms?

It does take 4-6 weeks to feel the full benefit.

Like zxcirce, I've never felt effects earlier than 3 weeks, with the exception of abilify, which turned out to have nasty side effects and I was weaned back off of it.

Most SSNRIs and SSRIs take about a month to really get the full effect, but when I first started Prozac I noticed a bit of a lift 2 weeks in, though it could have been a placebo effect.

One supplement I found helped really boost the effectiveness of my antidepressant was l-methionine or l-methylfolate, highly-concentrated folic acid. Also comes in prescription form as Deplin, but not sure which is less expensive, I take it as a supplement from the Vitamin Cottage. Lifted me significantly out of a depression two weeks after taking it.

Yea, the reviews I read on pristiq were pretty good, hopefully it will work for me. I expect it to, based on how I feel right now.

Question about SNRIs & SSRIs

Around 3 or so weeks I would feel the effects of those drugs.

I think the hope of feeling better in the near future can have a positive effect on mood before the med's kick-in.

I don't know, my sister said it took 7-10 days before she started feeling it. I'm on day 6 now and I've noticed I get less irritable when my blood sugar drops and I don't seem to get stressed and frustrated as easily. I'm aware of placebo studies but it just seems like I can feel it starting to work.

Day 10 on pirstiq now, I still don't think I feel it. I do however feel a little less on edge, maybe it's a good sign it will work soon.

I'm glad you are sticking with it and giving it time to really kick in. My psychiatrist and I spent months trying to find a proper combination/dose of antidepressants, and finally hit what appears to be a winner about two months ago.

Please do keep us updated on your progress.

Freedom 1990, so pristiq is pretty good, huh? I've been on several meds nothing seems to help. I feel hopeless.

Thanks for caring, I love talking about myself.

The Pristiq lifted my mood and gave me more energy, pulled me out of my rut and got me thinking positive again.

However it did seem to stir up some anxiety so he took me off it and put me on Lexapro.

Overall I'm feeling better.
