But there is a reason that you are quitting the pills...what is that reason?

Ouch! I know that must have hit you in the gut pretty hard. Quitting will be tough, but it is doable. Especially when you have such a huge incentive (your child).

NW,
PLease go see you doctor right away! I have serious doubts you'll be able to handle W/D , a household, and a child all at the same time.
We're all routin for you and we'll be here for you as well.

I found not trying to sleep worked better for me.When I was going thru the detox every other week (thank god I dont have to do that anymore)I would just try to rest, not dwell on my misery and believe it or not excersize helps getting those endorphens going. Most of all dont take a pill it puts you back to hour one. This is just my experience talking to a medical professional is always a good idea.Good ones wont judge you.Oh and keep talking about it.It helps thats why we are here

I also suggest you go through a detox!!! Depending on how much and how often you took pills (especially opiates), your withdrawals will be horrible and you will most likely resort back to the pills just to make you feel well again!

I have been on morphine Vicodin hydromorphone Xanax and Valium for 4 years. I had my surgery thinking I can just stop all the meds after. I did call my doctor and she wanted to call me in all my meds so I can have them but I don't want them. I have a very painful medical issue that is terminal it with that said I don't want my kids remembering mommy taken pills. I'm ready to suck it up and be "sober" and enjoy making memories with them.

Honestly, if you are strong enough to do a taper, that's exactly what I would do. It sounds like you are ill and have totally legitimate pain. Best of luck to you.

A taper is almost a necessity. Cold turkey from what you are doing pill wise is rough also the xanax etc withdrawals can be very difficult. I went from 20 plus vicoden a few perc's and a few valiums everyday down to like 8 vicodin . Then I checked into a detox for a few days. That was Oct '09 haven't had an opiate since. Its a journey ! it also sounds like you may need the Med's. for starters try doing the least you can do and still function and not feel sick from withdrawal .
