i am grateful that i didnt take a drink today. i was at play rehersal and was feeling pretty good, actually, and i started thinking, "i'm only 5 days sober, and yet i feel just fine, i must not be an alcoholic"....
then i started thinking about going by the ghetto beer store after rehersal and getting a cold one. next thing i know, one of the characters in the play brings out a decanter full of "whiskey" and pours some drinks, and i found my eyes glued to the container of water as he doled out the doses. then i started feeling really sick and anxious and wanted a drink soooo bad. eventually it passed and i'm so grateful that i had that little reality check and didnt act on my disease's trickery.

So happy you didn't listen to you disease cause it will try and lie to you so it can bring you back to the pits of Hell again.

Also IMHO an alcoholic isn't about someone feeling fine or not at 5 days its about the obsession like how you described about the whiskey. Normal drinkers don't go through all that mind trips.

It is also not how much one drinks its more about what happens when one drinks. Or never knowing what will happen when one drinks.

If you don't have one yet I would recommend getting the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous there are a few chapters in there that describe all this in great detail. You can also get it through here. The chapters are The Dr's Opinion & More About Alcoholism.
