Hi Dan
I have no personal experience to share but I think going to detox is a positive move for anyone, however scary it might seem now.
I'm sure others will be along to share soon
Welcome to SR - and good luck

I spent 30 days inpt rehab, it wasn't so bad. I detoxed at home before going cause I was a control freak and wanted to be miserable at my house. You'll sleep thru a great deal of it. Don't be afraid, look forward to a new life and being free. Get lots of support either thru formal program NA or AA or go thru a program that supports you for relapse prevention. This is doable and you'll do great.
I second the sleeping through a great deal of it. I detoxed inpatient myself at the beginning of the month and slept the first 30 hours or so so I don't recall much of anything. They had me drugged up and they know what they are doing so it's good that you are doing it in a safe place. I wish you the best of luck! (:

Well I can offer a little insight here as today is day 13 cold turkey from 240-300mg oxy daily. I detoxed at home. I'm old hat at detox, and have learned to make the detox very workable. The worst of the symptoms are over by day four, by two weeks you'll be feeling much better daily. With proper supplements, nutrition, and exercise you can greatly hasten your recovery. A proper Doc will know this and if they don't talk about the importance I would be concerned. When you reach the Post Acute Withdrawl Syndrome state proper diet, supplements, exercise will be even more important. Done corectly you'll bring you adrenal system back into balance, and boost dopamine levels which will help you feel normal again. Neglect it and you're in for a much longer ride. Finally make sure you continue on with meetings, NA, or an addiction specialist/counsellor for me staying clean is far more difficult than getting clean. If you're like me you'll need support. Godspeed in your journey!
I also went hospital to detox. After going 5 days without on my own I only went back to using. Hospital gave suboxon for only 2 days and nothing on third. It felt like I cheated a weeks worth of withdrawals. And came out feeling like okay I can do this now! I'm on day 27 and it only gets better.
