My significant other just told me that I seek drugs because I do not know how to cope with my anxiety. This is the first time that I stopped to think about it and I think she is actually right. I want to use so badly because I have this burning anxiety in side of me that completely goes away once I snort a pill. Who else is the same way?

I remember one of the psychiatrists in my rehab center trying to tell me that as well....I like you believed it at first. Anytime I stopped using I got intense anxiety and that was always the symptom that drove me back to the drug (opiates for me).

Turns out I never actually stayed clean long enough to get over withdrawal and my anxiety was just that...a symptom of withdrawal from using opiates for so dam.n long. I didn't actually have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) like the Dr. at my rehab wrongly diagnosed me with.

Morale of the story :: Give yourself a little bit of clean time before you or anybody else diagnoses you with secondary mental illness' .....you just can never tell whether they are actually correct or just a symptom from withdrawal during the beginning.
