Well after many recommendations I went to alaon today! Well done me, even if I do say so myself.

It was very comforting to hear and tell similar stories about how drunk family members affect the people around them. I'm not bonkers! Hurrah!

I know what I have experienced is just the tip of the iceburg and I still don't have a clue how to detach with love, or how I have my mother actively in my life but I think I may uncover this with time.

Thank you to those who suggested I go, I can see how this may benefit me in the future. I will keep you posted

Proud of you, Mandjas! It can take a lot of courage to go to an Al-Anon meeting, but they can be so very, very helpful. You may be surprised at the strength, experience, and hope you are able to glean from these meetings (and from reading their materials)....I know that for me, I gradually grew the skills to deal with my drunk sisters and brothers, even though I knew little at first about how i would ever manage to detach.

Oh, good. I'm glad you found good things there. Keep going back. I know it's helped me a lot. My behavior has changed in lots of ways, even when I don't really realize it. It's a process but I'm getting there. You will too!
