I have failed
((((tangram))))
I'm glad to hear that you are able to go into rehab, inpatient, outpatient, any kind of help with Recovey is beneficial. But please don't make some of the mistakes that I did over the years. I thought if I went to every group/meeting, got there on time and never leaving early would mean "I got it." That's not the case.
Nor is it rocket science. You may ask how? It's a relatively simple formula:
H onesty
O pen mindedness
W illingness
I wasn't honest, I thought if I were, people would realize that I was the piece of $hit that I THOUGHT I WAS. I would hear suggestions of what worked for millions of others,(AA) and think, "that isn't gonna work for me." I thought I knew better. HAH! Willingness, I wasn't willing to be honest, wasn' willing to be open minded and just wasn't ready to admit that I didn't know everything!
Stop thinking that you have failed. You just need some help with this. It simply cannot be done alone, in my opinion.

Hi tangram. I failed too. Lots and lots of times. And like yourself, I finally sought help.
Rehab was a wonderful place for me. I needed somewhere safe to face myself, to let go a bit, and to get oriented towards a path of recovery.
I hope you start learning what we need to learn to keep from picking up that first drink again.

Glad to know you are working towards a
future of health and success.
Many of us had false starts before we
actually became winners over alcohol.
This can be true for you as well.

tangram,
Please don't think of yourself as a failure! YOU ARE NOT!!!! You have plans to go to rehab and in my opinion that makes you a success! My therapist told me this at my first appointment, and I like to share it with others because it's a simple thing with a huge message behind it. "You will relapse. It happens. The important thing is to acknowledge it, accept it, and then sit down and think 'Ok, now what can I do to keep this from happening again?' "
I hope you will have success with rehab! Whether drugs, alcohol, or other addictions, rehab has helped and is currently helping many of us!!!! Stay strong! You'll be in our prayers!

Down but not out
You are only a failure if you give up completely. However, it is in true surrender, that victory over alcoholism can be found. Bill Wilson was quoted as saying, "I hope your slip kicks you upstairs". Perhaps this will be your experience.

You are not a failure tangram. Be kind to yourself. It is the most natural thing for an alcoholic/addict to drink/use. Every sober day is a miracle. Just the fact that you are being honest about what's going on for you shows great strength. And you haven't given up, you're still posting which shows you have some hope. Rehab can be a good safe environment to clear your head and get some tools to deal with living life sober, particularly if it is a 12-step based one. It takes great courage to make the decision to go to rehab. Don't give up. You are worth recovery.
